MEETING TO ORDER:  President Marlene Sexton called the meeting to order at 12:30 with Mel Hollinger giving the invocation followed by all of us reciting the 4 way test.

 

GUESTS: 

Ray George doubled dipped with his two guests Derek Thornton and Rollo Van Slyke

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:  

George Tsakumis from Vancouver

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:

  • Randy returned from a floating Rotary meeting that he considered a makeup
  • Laurie attended an inspirational President Elect Training (PET) session at the Rotary Institute for Leadership
  • Gary Tomsic offered his thanks for all the kind thoughts he has received as he returned from his mother's funeral

 

BIRTHDAYS:

In his second double dip of the day, Ray George shares a birthday with Melanie Mohammad on 3/3

 

ACCOUNCEMENTS:

  • The auction is only two weeks away. get invite cards filled out and continue to bring your auction items.
  • Another NW Therapeutic Riding Center working party is scheduled for Saturday 3/5; brings your tools.
  • District Assembly is scheduled for April 9
  • District Conference is scheduled for March 5 in Harrison Hot Springs
  • Rotary Institute is March 12
  • Everyone is encouraged to sign up for career fair being held on March 31
  • Burlington Club is putting on a 911 remembrance concert on September 10.
  • Member roster update is available

 

 

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:  Bill Grace facilitated a new member induction for Rollo Van Slyke who joined our club.

 

 

HAPPY BUCKS:

 

  • Marlene is happy to welcome Rollo as a new member had fun at the wine tasting
  • Bill Grace is also glad to have Rollo has a member of our club and was glad that even though there was 6" of snow in Stanwood, there was none at his house due to the wind.
  • Maureen also welcomed Rollo to the club
  • Laurie welcomed Rollo and thanked those attending PETS.  She was happy to see the sun shining and not being snowed in.
  • Jerry welcomed Rollo.
  • Rocky welcomed Rollo.
  • Norm welcomed Rollo and thanked those who have helped with getting ready for the auction.  He also said Randy participated in the work party and even had fun.
  • Randy is thankful for good friends like Norm
  • Gary thanked Laurie for taking his place at PETS and hopes she will now tutor him
  • Dale welcomed Rollo saying he was a great insurance agent
  • Jim welcomed Rollo and was glad that Ray finally got Rollo's name  correctly pronounced

 

 

FINEMASTER:  Maureen collected lots of money for the cause with these fines:

  • Ken R was charged $5 for leaving early
  • Anyone who did not eat veggies
  • Those who did not buy raffle tickets
  • Those who missed wine tasting
  • Those who didn't bring a restaurant gift certificate or bottle of beer or wine
  • Tyler was charged for singing a New Kid on the Block song in Haggen
  • Those who did not spend at least 30 consecutive minutes outdoors on  Saturday and Sunday
  • Those who  were in a warm/sunny climate within the last 30 days
  • If you come home and the heat is on-someone's warming up the house for  you
  • If you didn't sit at a different table from last week
  • Stan B was fined just because she likes him
  • Melanie was fined for wearing beautiful shoes despite the weather
  • February is official month for dental health (debate between children's or all ages per Randy), heart health, pet dental month, bird feeding month, black history month and love the bus month (oh, now I get it, Maureen)

 

 

BANNERS:  In honor ofPaul Harris starting Rotary on February 23. 106 years ago.  Bill Grace got it 100% correct.

 

 

PROGRAM:  

Heidi from Amy's Place, a teen drop in Center shared information about her program and the upcoming March 4th fundraiser they have planned. 

 

This organization has been successfully reaching out to youth aged 11-24 living on the street.  In 2010 they helped support 394 youth comprising over 2054 visits and 2000+ meals.  Old Town Christian Ministries is the sponsor.  Mental illness and chemical dependency are common themes among these displaced youths.  Amy's place provides a positive environment to lead teens to help they are willing to receive.  About one third of all kids they serve are homeless and Amy's Place is always looking for mentors. Amy's Place is located at 1704 N. State Street and is open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 6:00-11:00 p.m. Their eventual goal is to be available to youth in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

 

The theme for March 4th fundraiser is "All that Jazz."  There will be two bands on hand providing live music along with a silent auction.  For more information you can go on line to:  amysplaceforyouth.org.
