MEETING TO ORDER:  President Chuck Tull called the meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Gary Snyder gave the invocation. The program by the Ferndale High School Chamber Orchestra came next followed by the rest of the meeting's activities.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS: Laurie introduced the visiting Rotarians - George Tsakumis (Vancouver), Bob Moles and John Moles from the Bellingham clubs.

 

GUESTS:  Pete Ruese introduced his wife, Lynn. Jim Bliss introduced Linda Quinn, Superintendent of Ferndale Schools. Tim Villhauer introduced Tracey from his office.

 

BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES:  Pete Kremen. December 28th. Happy BD Pete.

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  None.

 

ANNOUNCMENTS:        Chuck gave a Foundation moment. Mel Hollinger provided a matching grant of $25,000. Thank you very much, Mel. Bell ringing assignments were discussed. The next board meeting will be January 7 at 7:30 a.m. at the Zervas boardroom. There was a call for unused cell phones that can be valuable in fundraising efforts. A discussion ensued about the pros and cons of possibly relocating the club back to Ferndale. The possible locations include the new Boys and Girls Club facility in Ferndale or the old Denny's lounge. No definitive decisions were made in this regard, and more discussion will occur in the future. Dick Donahue discussed the upcoming auction and raffle. Each member will receive in the mail $1,000 worth of raffle tickets to sell for the March 12th auction at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club. Bellingham Travel will be providing travel packages that the winners can tailor to their liking. There will be four selling teams responsible to sell 625 tickets each.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:   Due to the time limitations, lots of Happy Bucks were donated and provided to our fabulous wait staff at Northwood Hall.

 

FINEMASTER:     Jack Curnow was the fine master. Again due to time constraints, Jack made it brief and cut a wide swath.

 

Banners:      With banners, Stan spelled out "Christmas Cheer." Thanks Stan.

 

PROGRAM:          Today's program was the Ferndale High School Chamber Orchestra, with Chrissie Snyder directing. Jim LaRose introduced Ferndale Superintendent Linda Quinn. The Orchestra performed a beautiful set of classic and holiday pieces. A big thank you to FerndaleHigh School in sharing your very talented students with us. And very special thanks to the students for their talents and dedication to very worthy and wholesome activities.
