Greeter: Brian-Better Late than Never-Finnegan
Called to Order: President Laurie called the meeting to order and led us in the flag salute.
Invocation: Maureen, (who really should have prayed for the projector)
Returning Rotarians: Tim V. returning from Budapest bringing back a 2 sided banner.
Visiting Rotarians: Dr. Lee Harmon from Arlington and our own Jeanne McGee from Mexico.
Guest of Rotarians: Welcome Katie Esp (Laurie’s guest) & Tom Lallas, introduced by Rollo, but was really the ever elusive, Ray’s guest.
Birthdays: Susie P. and Tim V. Happy Birthday!
Announcements: Laurie announced that the “headliners” from today’s meeting are all women. Sad news that Winton Smith resigned from the club due to business obligations. He will be missed. On a positive note, Gary T. joined the faculty of RLI! A discussion of by-laws and the constitution. Motion to approve the new constitution/passes. Motion to adopt by-laws as amended/passes. We were encouraged to read the by-laws and constitution which is on-line. Ken announced the Duck Race on the 25th and we have the costs covered; now we need to sell tickets! A fellowship “ticket sale” will be held at the Meridian Haggen’s on Saturday, the 4th, starting at 8:00 am. Rollo deserved a “shout out” for rounding up corporate sponsors. Tim stated he needs help in the form of a horse trailer, (Laurie?) for transporting ducks. Also, a reminder to wear Rotary pins, badges, etc. on Sat. Tim C. announced Golfun and a second foursome being formed. Lee Harmon announced the Polio Plus concert on Sept. 7th along with an interesting update on progress being made to eradicate polio. We are soooooo close!
Happy Bucks: Ken had $64 for his age and $1 more because he made it! Bill was happy for a visiting niece and her Air Force Academy son. Also, because he pulled a “Jake Smith” last week and almost showed up at 1:20 for lunch. (He held off taking the record for being “the latest to arrive” and Jake remains the champ!) Tim V. had $5 for his trip to Prague and Budapest where he enjoyed the local beer. Jake had $25 for an illegal (many times over) fire he created on Orcas Is. His charm got him out of more than $1,500 fines! Jeanne had $ for booking her trip back to Mexico in October. Maureen was happy to have kayaked in the San Juan’s. Sharon was happy for her new best friend, Lee Harmon for rescuing her program by fixing the projector. Gary T. was happy that Rocky had the 4th best looking beard in the group. (Tim V‘s beard evidently doesn’t count!) Rollo was happy for a new sport car. Tim V. was sad for not making the beard list, but bragged about winning “many” beard contests over the years. Ken, for some reason, admitted he was happy to have been a drone back in ’69. Laurie had sad $ to lose Winton, but happy to have her guest, Katie and for belonging to such a fun club.
Finemaster: Maureen started off with the banners which depicted the theme “Old Settlers”. (Bill paid happy $ for getting that right.) We were fined if no orange on our plates, if we did not give happy $, if we did not buy a drawing ticket, if there was a table we never sat at. We were fined if we were related to 2 or more people at a table…who could that be? We were fined if we did not have at least 2 duties to perform …such as Invocation AND finemaster! Brian was fined for being late as a greeter and Jeanne was fined for sitting next to Maureen who had been alone at her table. Jake was fined for charming his way out of fire fines. Tim V. because Maureen wants to go to Budapest. Maureen acknowledged that she has not been called Marlene or Maurlene all day. We were fined if we have sold less than 20 duck tickets. And then a round of fines for missing Nobel Peace Prize trivia questions. We were fined if we had not been on a boat since July 4 and if we had AC in our homes. And last: If we have forgotten to take bags to the grocery store.
Program: A very interesting program by Sharon about her trip to Bangkok Thailand and Cambodia for the Intern’l Convention. She was grateful for the opportunity to travel to such a multicultural and friendly convention/country where she was able to enjoy world caliber speakers and see some of the most amazing architecture. Her pictures were fantastic, (including the fried frogs on a stick!). Great program!
Final Announcement by Gary T: Help keep Mel from going off the deep end and arrange a trip to deliver the Traveling Peace Arch.
