MEETING TO ORDER:  President Marlene Sexton called the meeting to order at 12:30 and Winton Smith gave the invocation.

ACCOUNCEMENTS:
  • Foundation dinner is to be held on November 11, 5:30 p.m., at Northwood Hall
  • Leadership Institute is Saturday, October 2 in Mt. Vernon.  Marlene plans to attend; registration on line or check in with Marlene for further information.
  • Graham Harris (New Zealand) is interested in doing a "Sister Club" activity between our club and his-all his friends in the club volunteered to work on this project
  • Live stock sale is going on this week; ends next week-see Laurie for details.   Helpers are needed 1-4 p.m. next Friday at the NW Washington Fair
  • There is a Copan brunch scheduled October 3 from 11:00-1:00 at the Bellwether; Gary Tomsic is auctioneer
  • A planning meeting for the Copan Auction is scheduled for August 17 at 5:15 p.m., Poppi's at the Best Western Lakeway Inn
  • Dick Nolan resigned from the club
  • Club members are needed to step into leadership roles-a president elect is urgently needed for 2011.  Please thoughtfully consider, search your hearts and respond to Rick Staeb or Tim Carpenter.  Past presidents and board members stand ready to offer support in any way possible.

  • Tim Villhauer-bought a cool sod laying implement that was really sharp which resulted in a finger cut, he also enjoyed the Giuseppe's soft opening

  • Ken Richardson for driving a emergency service truck-one person tried to misuse 911 to get a ride to liquor store, maybe Ken should consider use tax dollars for this purpose
  • Pete Kremen has a $5  IOU for a 5 year "temporary" building ban
  • Non dog owners paid because your dog could save your life as evidenced by the dog which ate his owner's big toe
  • Anyone who purchased of LED TV between 1998-2006 could be entitled to get money back due to price fixing

PROGRAM:  Paul Cooley introduced Richard Baila, a local boat builder and real estate agent, who shared his experiences while living in Chile during the February 27th 8.8 earthquake. At the time of the earthquake he was living on the 14th floor of an apartment building in Conception.  He shared his photos of before and after the disaster including maps of the area.  He described the immediate chaotic aftermath and what it was like to witness the damage.  The first of 3 tsunami waves came ashore approximately 2 hours after the quake at 30 feet high and traveling at 75 miles per hour.  There were 300 ton boats lifted and set down blocks from the water.  His boat was anchored to a pontoon and survived the waves. He credited this to a successful toast to Neptune as he pasted the equator.
