MEETING TO ORDER: President Tim Villhauer called the first meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim McKellar gave the invocation which lamented and eulogized the passing of Brad Peterson
VISITING ROTARIANS: George Tsakumis- Vancouver BC, Bill Kirlsy, Carson City N.V., Stowe Talbot, Bellingham Bay Rotary Club GUESTS: Marge Laidlaw, Nathan Wallace (aka boat waxer), Curt Wallace and Chris Wallace (Scott's family almost filled a whole table)
RETURNING ROTARIANS: Dick Donahue from Hawaii, Tim Villhauer-week in Maui, and for the hat trick, Stan Brunner returned from Kona.
BIRTHDAYS: Many happy returns for Eric Nelson
ANNOUNCMENTS: President Tim announced that he was making a meeting format because today he got fines and happy bucks ahead of announcements.(not!).
President Tim informed us that we need to cut out well meaning politically oriented fines. Apparently, some don't always find them funny when they aren't laid between the lines. Services for Rotarian Brad Peterson are pending. Please attend if possible.
Jerry Landcastle gave thanks to the US Navy for their work off the Somalia coast.
Dick Donahue announced a fund raising committee meeting next Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:15 AM at Northwood Hall
Laurie Lloyd announced that the barn raising for the Horses staying with the Humane Society will be Saturday April 25th. Bring tools. Call Laurie with questions.

Larry Pollett brought us up to date with this year's Polio Plus efforts. A donation of $1,000.00 is needed. Anyone?
Pete Ruese reported on a very successful CAREER FAIR. Special thanks to HAGGEN FOODS for supplying lunch for all. 446 students signed up. There were a few no shows and a few walk-ups, so more than 400 participated.
President Tim asked you to mark your calendar for an evening planning meeting with some Rotary big wigs on September 17th 5-9:00 PM. This will be instead of the usual luncheon
Ken Richardson announced that VFW will have a program at 10:00 AM Saturday April 11th featuring Captain Gerall David of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
Brian Finnegan reminded us that he is asking us to do just two things for Whatcom North Rotary. 1. Fill out the form for an auction item no later than April 24th 2. Ask a friend to join you at the auction on May 8th at the Bellwether. Brian said he will be having a little party at his office on Friday the 24th with a little wine sipping to wrap up the auction item collection effort. The theme for this year's auction is CARIBBEAN, so dress accordingly.
HAPPY BUCKS: Tim Villhauer was $10 happy to have Chuck Tull fill in for him when he vacationed in Hawaii. Bill Grace and his wife Kris were happy about the Career Fair and all the left over's from HAGGENS they were able to donate to the Mission. Brian Finnegan was sad for loosing Brad. Rick Staab gave money for kudos to Pete Ruese for this yeoman work once again on Career Fair. Phil Brat was happy for golf in the desert. Marlene Sexton was happy $30 for 30 years of marriage. Greg Iwasaki was happy for the career fair. Tony Cubellis $3 happy for 3 days of sun. Scott Wallace was happy for all his guests. Dick Donahue has happy. Ken Richardson was $40 happy for 40 years of marriage. Phil Brat was pleased when he partook of Nicaraguan cigars. Jack Smith fined himself for being late. Finally, Laurie Lloyd took the prize with $42 for 42 years of marriage.
FINEMASTER: Lex Ludke was fine master. He started with $1 from everyone for the recent sunshine. $1 if you got to help at Career Fair and $2 if you didn't. Those that showed up at Northwood Hall.

All clubs featured a Saint except one that had a Halloween theme.
PROGRAM: Scott Wallace introduced our own Whatcom North Rotary Club member, Leah Macaleer, who is Regional Director of Junior Achievement . Leah played a video extolling the many virtues that the Junior Achievement program offers. Leah went on to explain how the old JA program has expanded from just High School to encompass all of the elementary school grades. This struck me as a "Dare" type program that teaches our youth about how capitalism and the free market works. JA is looking for volunteers to teach the classes. The commitment works out about 5 hours a week. The personal reward is the interaction with the kids and the knowledge that you are making a positive contribution to our nation's future. Well done Leah and thank you for all you do for our club, Junior Achievement and the community.
