MEETING TO ORDER: President Tim Villhauer called the first meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tony Cubellis gave the invocation and gave thanks for the arrival of spring.
VISITING ROTARIANS: George Tsakumis- Vancouver BC, Peter Self, R-Club., Jeanne McGee, Melaque Mexico
GUESTS: Doug Thomas was accused of being a guest. No other were identified..
RETURNING ROTARIANS: Doug Thomas returned from 18 days of important business in Palm Springs and Scottsdale mixed in with a little golf..
BIRTHDAYS: None to report this week
ANNOUNCMENTS: Tim Carpenter reported that Scott Piper in now a MULTIPLE Paul Harris Fellow. Tim also reported that Jim Bliss has attained that important distinction of becoming a MULTIPLE Paul Harris Fellow too.
Brad Peterson's memorial is 1:00 PM Friday April 17th at assumption church. .
Brian Finnagan had auction donation slips on the tables and reminded us that the deadline for auction items is April 24th. Celebration at BrianFinnigan's office to follow. Dick Donahue to donate "Cougar Cheese" for Brian's party.
The Whatcom North Rotary Caribbean Auction evening is 6:30 PM, Friday May 8, 2009 at the Bellewether Hotel. Bring your spouse and another couple. If you just can't make it, a donation of your $50 per plate is expected.
Laurie Lloyd announced that we will be building the last two horse stalls for the Humane Society will be 9:00 AM, Saturday April 25th . Bring tools. Call Laurie with questions.
Sharon Robinson reminded us that May 7th will be the Youth Service Awards Meeting. Table captains have been selected. Nancy Tieman will co-ordinate in Sharon's absence.
Leah Macaleer announced that Junior Achievement day at Carl Cozier Elementary school is May 22nd. She is still in need of Volunteers.
HAPPY BUCKS: T Bill Grace was happy of the sun and the sprouting of his plants. George was $2 happy about his sister adopting a child. Stan Brunner was $10 happy for a new Eagle Scout grandson. Randy Carr was $5 happy for the finish of his office remodel. Dough Thomas was $20 happy to be back. Jack Curnow was happy that tax season was over, for now. Scott Wallace was happy about the club. Tim Carpenter was happy to see Doug back. Sharon Robinson was sad to be going to Ohio and miss the auction. Jim Bliss was happy the WTA was raising it's rider fare. Laurie Lloyde was happy for the Seattle Mariners. Dick Donahue was happy to stand for conservative values on Meridian Street.
FINEMASTER: It seems that there was an assignment snafu, so there was a Finemaster tag team lead off by Lex Ludke who started by fining Scott Piper. .
Doug Thomas fined Pete Kremen for sleeping with his eyes open and Winton Smith for needing some sun shine on his very fair skinned bald head.
Scott Wallace fined Maureen McCarthy and Rick Staab for publicity. Tim Villhauer for a short lecture. .
Brian Finnegan fined everyone not going to the auction .
Jack Curnow got Lex then Gary Tomsic for political reasons. .
Randy Carr fined the Cougars for moving the Apple Cup .
Chuck Tull fined everyone who didn't offer a happy dollar. .
BANNERS: Stan's banner theme â?" The only 3 new banners received since 2007.p>
PROGRAM: Scott Piper introduced Julia Mesdag with Compass USA. This group sponsors exchange students from France, Spain & Austria. These students join your family for 3 to 6 weeks in the summer. You host them to the American experience and they enrich your life with their culture. Julia explain all the do and don't with a nice PowerPoint that went over expenses, rules, food, driving, phone, safety and a raft of other expectations. I you haven't hosted a foreign student, you are missing one of life's treats,
