Donations are needed for the Garage Sale and more items are needed for the silent and live auction. These can be dropped off at the Ferndale Boy's & Girl's Club between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday (August 21) through Wednesday (August 23).
Also, volunteers are needed all day Thursday (August 24) and Friday (August 25). Just show up at the Ferndale Boy's and Girl's club any time after 9:00 a.m.
Remember, there is no meeting this Thursday (August 24) at Northwood Hall. In lieu of the regular meeting we ask all members to gather at the Ferndale Boy's & Girl's Club to help set up everything for the auction/garage sale. Box lunches are being provided by Haggen.

MEETING TO ORDER: President Ken called the meeting to order at 12:15 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. After an introductory joke by Gary Tomsic, Mel gave an impassioned invocation asking for divine intervention in bringing in more new members to the club.
VISITING ROTARIANS: Stephanie Sadler from Bellingham Bay Rotary, Lynn Masland from Sunrise Rotary, John Moles, Dewey Dessler, David Shalin from the Bellingham Club, and Ron Kelly from Mt. Baker Rotary.
GUESTS: Tim Villhauer's guest was Dick Nolan, from Fairhaven Realty and Randy Carr's guest was Norm Vigre of Brambleberry Co.
BIRTHDAYS: Jim Zervas celebrates a birthday on August 20.
RETURNING: Doug Thomas returned from a "business" trip to Washington D. C.
ANNOUNCMENTS:
1. GARAGE SALE: We are almost there! For next week's meeting we will gather at the Boys and Girl's club for a work party. Box lunches will be provided. Signups for volunteers are still needed. If you have large items to be picked up, contact Lex Ludtke. Donations will be accepted from 11 am to 3 pm this Saturday and Sunday, and 3 pm to 7 pm on Monday through Wednesday. The auction will be Friday 7-9 pm. Auction items are needed!!!
2. The August 31st meeting will be the official District Governor's visit to our club. Members are encouraged to bring a guest.
3. Tim Villhauer gave some great suggestions about how each of us can find potential new members.
4. Julie Johansen circulated sign-up sheets for Fellowship Dinners. There will be a dinner hosted by Lori Pobuta and Sharon Robinson on September 30.
HAPPY BUCKS: Randy Carr for a week on his boat, and his guests today; Bill Grace for the sale of 11 benches and a trip to Oak Harbor; Doug Thomas, for delivering his niece to Pullman where she will be a freshman (gee, is there a school in Pullman or something?); Lynn Seelye, for the recovery of missing vehicles; President Ken Richardson for a good time at Golfun (although a score was not mentioned); Lex Ludtke for something indecipherable; Marlene Sexton happy that her visiting daughter has departed (or maybe she was happy that her daughter is now in Puerto Vallarta?) Tony Cubellis was happy that only four people have NOT paid dues yet (You KNOW who you ARE!). Dan Parsons was happy that after five years of marriage he is finally going on his honeymoon (how did he stay married for five years with behavior like that??). Mel Hollinger was sad, although he had no buck to show for it, because he had "won" a ten-year old TV in a raffle.
FINEMASTER: Doug Thomas started out by letting us know that SOME businesses have a BUSY season during which they must work very hard.Then he fined all school and government employees with the assumption that they do not have a busy season. Larry Pollett was fined for unkind comments about chicken, Dick Langabeer, for being quiet and listening respectfully to others (first time for everything, eh?); Tim Villhauer for calling Phil Bratt a sissy (when he was not even here to defend himself); Dewey Dessler and Pete Kremen were made examples of, for the diversity of their clothing. One of them is running for re-election (wonder which??). John A. was not fined, since he was wearing some old gray sweatshirt with some funny red letters on it. Randy Carr was fined for his raccoon eyes, Dan Parsons for his lack of a honeymoon.
BANNERS: The theme was VJ Day, which some of our more "distinguished" members knew right away, while other less well-educated members needed explanation of the term "VJ Day."
PROGRAM: Greg Anders of the Heritage Flight Museum gave a very interesting and informative presentation about the museum, which was founded by his father, Bill Anders, in 1996, and is currently housed in a commercial hanger at the Bellingham Airport.When details are ironed out, their long term vision is to move to the old Air National Guard Armory site.
The Museum is a "Flying Museum" making appearances at air shows from Southern California to Abbotsford in B.C. Greg talked about how airplanes can be a useful tool in teaching children respect for and understanding of our nation's history. Their target audience is 9-12 year olds.
Greg gave a statistic about aviation which I had always thought applied to architecture: It's a great profession to make a small fortune in, as long as you start with a large fortune.
