MEETING TO ORDER:  President Tim called the meeting to order at precisely 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Tony Cubellis gave the invocation in his usual fine form.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS: George Tsakumis from Vancouver, Wolf Peach from White Rock, Stephanie Sadler from Bellingham, Lynn Masland from Sunrise and former WCNR members Marvin Wolff and Hilary Baumstarck.

 

GUESTS:  Jim Bliss's Grandsons Corbin and Wilson Troxel.  Bill Grace brought his lovely wife Kris.  Tim Carpenter introduced George Mayo and Paul Cooley once again brought Tyler Cook.

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:   None

 

BIRTHDAYS:  None

 

ANNOUNCMENTS:       

 

(1) Rotary Leadership institutes will be held on July 20th in BC and on September 20, in Arlington.  Current and future board members, officers and anyone interested in getting more involved in club leadership are urged to attend.

(2)  Golfun - See Tim Carpenter if you are interested.  This week is your last chance to sign up.

(3)  TeenCenter Fundraising:  Doug Thomas is sending out thank you letters and pledge reminders.  Please remit now.

(4) Tim Carpenter is organizing a September trip to Honduras to kick off the Rotary Grant.  Let him know if you are interested.

(5) Riders, Riders, Riders!!!  We need you to sign up riders for Bay2Bay.  Dick Donahue spoke about Bay2Bay preparations.  Many jobs go unfilled so please set the date of August 23rd and 24th aside.  We need your help!  Bill Grace passed out brochures with sign up flyers (or was it the other way around).  Give out the fliers and post the posters wherever you can.  Look for people in bicycling cloths.  Positions Larry needs filled include, passing out at the rest stop, food servers, and truck drivers.

(6) Quarterly dues are due!  See Gary Tomsic before he sees you.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:    Tim Villhauer was happy for his picture in print about an award.  Randy Carr was $14 happy about 14-years married with a trip to the circus with kids.  Tony Cubellis was happy that the pollen levels are down.  Bill Grace was happy about snow water and his wife.  Rick Staeb was happy about climbing Mt.St. Helens.  Paul Cooley was happy to see Hilary Baumstarck again.  Maureen McCarthy was happy that bus ridership was up 30%.  Jim Bliss was happy to have grandchildren.  Tim Carpenter was happy to see Marvin Wolff.  Josh Wilund was happy about the progress with the Boys and Girls Club project.  Marvin Wolff was $5 happy to be at Rotary.  Greg Thulin was $5 happy but I missed why.

 

FINEMASTER:  Max Legg did a fine job of making wallets lighter.  Jim Bliss was fined.  Jerry Landcastle for his T-Shirt.  Pete Kremen came under fire for his hiring freeze.  Randy Carr for having Max's secretary claim it took 4-hours to clean her teeth (NOT!).  Dick Donahue for his mustache.  Tony Cubellis for his eyes (?).  Maureen McCarthy for wearing a coat on such a wonderful sunny day.  Rick Staeb for clumsiness and spilling on Maureen.  George Mayo was given the WCNR welcome fine.  Jim Bliss for his senior moment.  Gary Tomsic for hunting bear out of season.  Bill Grace for passing out the brochure (NOT!).  John Aubert because he's back.  And finally, Rome Sarwas for having his top down (nice).

 

BANNERS: Stan's banner theme was "Generic".

 

PROGRAM:           Paul Cooley introduced Cheri Woolsey in his usual fine form.  Cheri is the "Hope House" program manager.  It is located at 207 Kentucky St. in Bellingham, right behind the Catholic Church.  It is part of Catholic community services and benefits from United Way.  Hope House provides basic needs for distressed poor which includes clothing, house wares, diapers and food.  Lots of single parents, immigrants, abused, homeless and seniors.  They have distributed 60,000 items to 10,000 people with about 100 hours of volunteer work from 40 different people.  25% of the people they serve each day are new customers.  Local churches are the main referrals.  Baby supplies, especially diapers are a big item.  Personal hygiene items are high on the list of goods needed and distributed.  Cheri loves email and she can be reached at cheriw@ccsww.org.
