MEETING TO ORDER: Greg Thulin (President Elect) filling in for President Ken Richardson brought the meeting to order. Rick Staeb gave the invocation.
VISITING ROTARIANS: Out of Town Rotarians; Gordy Shaffer and Dwight Ferguson from the White Rock Peace Arch Club in Canada, Bruce Brabec from the Bonaire Club in the Netherlands Antilles and Jim Vos visiting from the Bellingham Club.
GUESTS: Jim Bliss introduced his Granddaughter Michele Boucher from Florida.
BIRTHDAYS: Lori Pobuta has a birthday on July 20 and will be 29 (again) and at this rate never expects to make it to 40.
RETURNING ROTARIANS: Returning Rotarians were; Adam Finfer who is happy to be back from California where he spent three weeks on business and vacation. Deb Wiggs has returned from Arizona and appreciates the greenery at home.
ANNOUNCMENTS: There will be a pre-meeting every Thursday for the Fundraising Committee at 11:30. Be there! (Or be square, and miss all the fun of participating in the upcoming Rummage Sale/Auction to benefit the Metcalf Teen Center at the Ferndale Boys and Girls Club).
Jim McKellar reminds us all to turn in our pledge cards. Even if you have only one, please turn it in so that he can get an idea of where we are at!
Sign up by August 4 for the Golfun at Homestead Golf Course (to take place on Friday August 11). Tim Carpenter has the sign up sheet. Cost is $110 payable to Tim Carpenter.
Bill Grace asks that you check the new roster one last time and notes that it will be out by the end of August. He also mentioned that there are more benches. Even though he has made his goal of selling 10, he will gladly make more!
HAPPY BUCKS: Winton Smith will be attending classes over the next four weeks and offered to pre-pay a fine of $5 as he'll not be attending Rotary during that time. Bruce Brabec was happy to be back and happy for a wonderful trip on the Skagit River in Canada fishing and on an eco-tour. Bill grace was happy to make his goal of selling ten benches and that Kris was recovering well from knee surgery. Mary Kanikeberg was $5 happy on John's behalf and $5 happy for her son's safe return from the Middle East. Maureen McCarthy was $5 happy for the end of a turbulent year. She was also happy for a wonderful weekend backpack trip with friends and to have participated in the Chuckanut Foot Race. Dick Donahue was sad after being rear-ended twice after buying one of Jerry (Chamber's) vehicles. Jim Bliss was happy (apologies from the editor, as she missed it. But she is glad you're happy, anyways). Deb Wiggs was happy to be back in the lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest, as compared to the Arizona heat at this time of year, making some sort of comparison to sticking your head in a heated oven. Hillary Baumstarck was $20 happy as he found it fun to do make ups at other clubs and that his son (the singer) lost his first tooth. Adam Finfer felt $1 guilty for missing his Sergeant in Arms duties, today. Rick Staeb is happy to be back. Doug Thomas was $1 happy that his daughter is back from Ballet Camp. Jim McKellar was $2 happy to be encouraged by the fact that people are turning in their pledge cards. Cheryl Fischer was happy to be back from Oregon and very happy that her grandfather was recovering well from triple by-pass surgery⿦at 96 years old!!
FINEMASTER: Tim Carpenter (surprisingly not chewing on anything) doled out fines to; all of those who haven't turned in their pledge cards ($1), all of those who did not have a female sitting at their table ($1), everyone but Max Legg, who was sitting at his table ($5), all of those who had facial hair or were bald ($1), himself, for having sponsored Greg Thulin into our club ($1), Mel for all the kudos he's received.

PROGRAM: Mel Hollinger introduced Gordy Shaffer and Dwight Ferguson from the White Rock Club who presented our club with the traveling Peace Arch, (it's the editor's understanding that it is now someone's responsibility to find a way to get it back to Canada. At this time, the editor did not notice who this was, but will keep you posted. Any info is appreciated, as it would be good to publish).
Steve Benson gave a brief New Member's talk about himself. After years of being an entrepreneur, he is currently in banking. He has a lovely family, wife (Melissa) and three children (Charlie, Bella and Eva).
Cheryl Fischer gave a brief New Members talk about herself. She originally comes from Georgia. She met her husband in Washington at the age of sixteen and has been smitten ever since. She has an accounting degree and is now in banking.
Dick Donahue spoke about the incredible success of the Bainbridge Island Rotary Auction and Rummage Sale, and how we can use them as a model for our own fundraiser for the Dick Metcalf Teen Center at the Ferndale Boys and Girls Club. Annual WCN Rotary Auction and Second Time Around Rummage Sale. Date: August 25 and 26, 2006 (Friday and Saturday) 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Silent and Live Auction: The Silent Auction will be open for pre-viewing at 4 p.m. and will take place before the Live Auction. Live Auction will commence at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 26.
Donations: Accepting donations daily (noon to 8pm) one week prior to the sale. Please try to bring your items before August 23. Donation location TBA.
Please also save and bring bags, packing peanuts, wrapping/newspaper and boxes for the sale.
