Announcements: Jim McKellar announced that the Club was kicking off the face-to-face portion of the Dick Metcalf Memorial Campaign. He will have more information after the Program. Past-President Larry Pollett announced we received a thank you letter from the Ferndale Student recipient of the youth scholarship award. Scott first started with the banners and somehow ended up fining everyone $1 ($4 left/each left to go); each person who had more than one cookie had to pay $1 for each cookie over one; Hilary Baumstarck and all tie wearers $2; all financial/asset managers $2 for the possible IPO on the Segue Scooter; speaking of segues, Brian (segue) Finnegan fined for overuse of the term "segue"; Randy Carr for dispensing free and useful boating advice; Bill Grace for sitting on a substation in order to get cell service; Mel Hollinger for his happy birthday quote in the paper; Nancy Harrison for St. Joes recent rating; Dick Donahue for his recent training; and Winton Smith for his quote and picture in Business Journal.

Program: Randy Carr provided today's program on dental implant technology. The first ten minutes was wasted while the projector warmed up. During this time Randy made feeble attempts at entertaining the masses by discussing "meth mouth".
Once the projector warmed up, Randy showed us graphic photos of different mouths and tooth issues (don't know if it would have been better to view these before or after eating).
The focus of the program was the ability to provide a better dental implant and methods for securing of dentures. In a nutshell, a hole is drilled into your gum line and into the jawbone; a rod like screw is jammed into that hole (this rod is supposed to replicate the root). After the bone has fused around the rod/screw, a false tooth can be attached by a screw. This method is much better than constructing a bridge. The same method can be used for securing dentures.
In all, given the speaker, it was an interesting topic. I will be sure to brush my teeth and floss that much more so I can avoid this procedure. By the way, Mel announced that he still has all his real teeth.
