Meeting to Order:
President Greg called the meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the flag salute. Tony provided the invocation.
Visiting Rotarians:
A big welcome to George Tsakumis from Vancouver, B.C. and Ann Caldwell from Fidalgo Island Rotary, as well as Lynn Templeton from Bellingham Bay Rotary.
Guests:
Tim V. introduced his guest and assistant, Karen Lawson. Rich J. introduced his wife, Robin and Bill G. brought his bride of 41 years, Kris. Welcome all!

Announcements:
Greg announced the District Conference which began today and carries through the weekend. Marlene announced that we now have a good supply of WCNR flags ready to be dispersed. (Some are being stored in a box upstairs at the hall, Marlene has others available.) Marlene also announced an opening for another RYLA applicant. Anyone interested can get online or see her for details. We already have one applicant attending. Brian F. had a thank you to Gary T. for the great job he did at the auction last weekend. Brian stated we grossed $27,000 and estimates a net of $20-22,000 after expenses. Next week he will have a more accurate number. See Brian to pick up any yearbooks or pictures.
Happy Bucks:
Greg was happy about today's program as well as a successful auction and nice weather. Gary T. had happy bucks for Brian as well as for the Borderites. Brad was happy to be here, (and we are all happy to have him back!) Doug had happy $ for being at the right table, (think "Cougs"). Max was happy to have gone scuba diving with his wife in the Grand Caymans, where they enjoyed beautiful weather. Lynn T. had thank you $ for the Ferndale B&G club progressing so well. $2.9 million has been raised/pledged so far. Ken was happy to see Brad and was happy for the auction as well as seeing all the young people here today. George T. was happy about a trip to Arizona where he enjoyed 83-95 degree weather. Sharon had happy $ for Brian and the auction as well as thank you $ for Randy for organizing today's event and she was happy to see all the young people and hear their stories. Bill G. had happy $ for the "the best meeting of the year" as well as for the sunshine. Rich J. gave $ for the success of Brian, Jodie, and Brian's assistant as well as informing George T. that despite previous misgivings about accepting George's Canadian money, it is now welcome. Brian had happy $ for the success of the auction and his wife and his assistant's hard work. Tony C. had happy/sad $ for being unfairly stopped by Whatcom County's finest, but hired Dan Parsons who persuaded the courts to forgive and forget. Dan also refused a fee, instead requesting Tony give the $$ to happy bucks. (Very generous!)

The program today was the popular YouthService Awards.
REPRESENTING:
Blaine High School:
Christiana Brashear who's passion is working with Search and Rescue units. She is also in the select choir as well as maintaining a B+/A average in college level work. Christiana's mother, Sarah was able to join us, as well as her school counselor, Karen Mullholland.
Nooksack Valley High School:
Mickey Schuster introduced Nooksack student, Larissa Prosch who is the ASB secretary and is in the honor society. Larissa's favorite project is organizing the Blood Drive at school. (She is also a donor.) Larissa has plans to be a pediatrician and will study in the fall at BYU. Her parents, Rob and Beth joined her in receiving this award.
Ferndale High School:
Jack MacSlarrow introduced Ferndale senior, Amy Morse Englesberg. Amy's passion is the Peace and Justice Center and encouraging others to express their beliefs. Amy practices what she preaches by organizing non-violent civil disobedience in order to make changes. Amy will be studying at Brandeis University next year. Her proud parents joined her at this luncheon.
Lynden High School:
Mr. Collins introduced Lynden High student, Clark Yoder. Clark recently organized Teacher Appreciation Week and a memorable experience for Clark was working on the Million Smiles Park in Lynden. Clark's mom, Tammie serves as a role model for volunteering and we were glad she was able to join Clark at the luncheon. Clark will be attending WSU next winter, where he will most likely major in engineering. (He will be in training for the National Guard this fall.)
Mt. Baker High:
Principal Steve King introduced Celeste Hilgart. Celeste is involved with the school band, FFA, holds a 3.8 GPA, and has worked over 600 hours in her community volunteering with education, youth, and health issues. Celeste's main passion is tobacco education for young people. Celeste's grandmother, Annie as well as her father, Bernie were able to join us.
Meridian High:
Principal David Shockley introduced Cody Erickson who has many interests including teen court, Cornwall Church, and being a counselor for 6th grade students at outdoor education week. He is also credited with reviving school spirit at Meridian. Cody was joined by his parents, Patty and Brian as well as his grandmother, Lois.
Windward High:
Fran Genger introduced Joseph Moreno who was chosen unaniomously by staff to represent Windward High. Fran described Joseph as a great student, but more important, "the nicest person she has ever met." Joseph's senior project was organizing a clothing drive and he was able to place donation boxes in all the schools in Ferndale. Joseph will be attending the University of Texas next year with an interest in aviation. Joseph was joined by his mother, Selena and sister, Renie.
