MEETING TO ORDER:  President Greg Thulin called the meeting to order at 12:35 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Tony Cubellis gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:     Larry Ziels from the Bellingham Club.

 

GUESTS:  Ray George brought his daughter Cassandra again as his designated driver.  Jerry Landcastle brought his lovely bride Sharon, (both Paul Harris Fellows).

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  None today.

 

BIRTHDAYS:  No one with a birthday in our club today, again.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:   

1.         President Greg reminded us again that the District Conference is May 15-18 in Everett.  On-line registration is available and some great activities are planned.

2.         The next board meeting is scheduled for May 1, 2008 at 7:30 A.M., at Zervas Group offices board room.

3.         Dick Donahue reminded us of the many jobs that are needed for the Bay2Bay event this summer and thanks those who have already volunteered.  The start will be in the parking lot at the foot of Harris Avenue in Fairhaven.  The finish is very close to the same location as the Joinery, who has stepped up as a sponsor, as has Haskell Corp.  We still need more sponsors!

4.         Brian Finnegan reminded us that the club auction is Friday, May 9th.  The April 24th deadline for donating auction items is being extended for another week to this Friday at 5:00 P.M.  Ray George has brought some great items including ½ beef that several members agreed to split.  Bring a friend - Bring smiles - Teen theme.

5.         There is a new White Rock Club that will be kicked off on May 28th in a black tie affair. 

 

HAPPY BUCKS:  Josh Wilund was happy to be back from BendOregon.  Tim Carpenter was grateful for the people who stepped up and volunteered to work on the auction.  Rome Sarwas was happy about his Arizona snow bird parents.  Bob Bowman was happy to see Bill Larose and for Randy Carr's teeth pulling.  Tim Villhauer was happy to be going to TempeArizona with a side trip to Las Wages.  Finally, $5 happy money came from Dan Baker.

 

FINEMASTER:   Phil Bratt filled in for missing Finemaster, Roger Lehnert and fined Roger $5 for his absence.  Laurie Lloyd and Elizabeth Barnard were fined for being the only women members present.  Mel Hollinger's table was fined for being a "click" of seasoned members.  Everyone who has not contributed to the auction yet was fined $1.  Brian Finnegan was fined for peeking at the gender of his expecting baby.  Chad Chambers and Tony Cubellis were fined for conducting high finance at the meeting and Tony was fined for buying a new Dodge.  Bob Bowman was fined for the Michael Moore movie.  Randy Carr was fined for the incredible price of gold.  Jim Bliss was fined for Safeco Insurance's 51% stock premium.  Ray George was fined for being unable to drive.  Tim Carpenter was fined for Green Peace and Brian Finnegan was fined for a smart answer. 

 

BANNERS:    The theme was wrapped around "Earth Day".  Great job Stan!

 

PROGRAM:   Brian Finnegan introduced Jason Darling, Manager of the Re-Store.  Our guest speaker was in tune with today's Earth Day theme and told us all about the many building materials they recycle.  There is 124 million tons of trash dumped every year.  Enough to build a 5 ft. wall around the shore line of the United States.  60% of buildings can be salvaged.  The Re-Store is mission driven.  Dedicated to quality.  Out of the box and making it fun.  Loved by people and adaptable.  They are helping one job site at a time.  They have two locations, $1.8 million in sales, and 45 full and part time employees.  See more at www.Re-Store.org
