MEETING TO ORDER:  President Greg called the meeting to order at 12:35 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Tony Cubellis gave the invocation.

VISITING ROTARIANS:     Lynn Masland from Sunrise Rotary Club and George Tsakumis from Vancouver.

GUESTS:  Eric Nelson introduced his guest Terry Lineaweaver.

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  Marlene Sexton (who seems to return from somewhere every week) returned from San Diego and bridle showers.  Paul Cooley returned from Palm Springs where he mixed a little business with much pleasure.  Jim McKellar returned from sunny California to spend the next several months in Bellingham.

BIRTHDAYS:  None this week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:        

1.         Tim Villhauer inducted new member Terry Lineaweaver.  Welcome to the club Terry.

2.         The District Assembly is Saturday April 12^th at Q College.  The club has paid for 5 spots and they are not all spoken for yet.

3.         Remember the District Conference is April 15-18 in Everett.  Call Greg for registration information.

4.         Dick Donahue spoke for Brian Finnegan on the May 9^th Rotary Club Auction to be held at Northwood Hall.  Tickets will go for $50 with more to follow on social hour etc.

5.         Bill Grace announced the upcoming 18^th annual Boulevard Park Antique Car Show to be held on Sunday May 25, 2008.  It's a great event so please attend if you can.

6.         Scott Wallace announced that Brad Peterson's leukemia is in remission and he's back to work part time.

7.         Gary Tomsic auctioned off four Mariner tickets for the Monday April 14^th game against the Royals.  Ray George was the successful bidder at $40.

HAPPY BUCKS:  Greg Thulin for passing two kidney stones on Tuesday.  Unfortunately he said there are more to follow.  Phil Bratt for a vacation with wife and kids to Chandler, Arizona.  Bill Grace is happy Jim McKellar is back and for having the good fortune to sit at the "hospitality" table.  Jerry Landcastle for our newest member.  Jim McKellar is happy to be home and delighted for the "gas shock".  Mel Hollinger is happy to see Jim McKellar back and will donate a dollar to help with his gas. Dick Nolan for a roadster drive, little beaver returning and a colonoscopy next week.  Paul Cooley for running into Sam Donaldson and Kenny Loggins in Palm Springs, parachuting and thanks to all who helped with the career fair.  Tony Cubellis is happy his son is a newly ordained CPA.  Marlene Sexton welcomed our newest member and announced she is celebrating her 29^th wedding anniversary - congratulations!  Eric Nelson welcomed our newest member.  Tim Villhauer for stealing Greg Thulin's outline.  Jake Smith for the new Executive Director of the St. Lukes Foundation.  Bob Bowman for something related to Mel Hollinger - I think.  Laurie Lloyd for her 41^st wedding anniversary and a "good" endoscopy.

FINEMASTER:   Jack Curnow levied fines today.  First to be fined is Max Legg for scheduling him as Finemaster so close to the tax filing date.  Scott Wallace for coming up with the "Wallace Rule".  All Husky fans for not wearing purple.  Dick Nolan for the obnoxious color of his shirt.  Tim Villhauer for advertising.  Jim McKellar for returning to Bellingham.  Ray George for whining about having a hectic day.  Paul Cooley for not doing any business in Palm Springs.  Greg Thulin for not having a frame on the Rotary Certificate of Membership.  Terry Lineaweaver was levied his "first" fine.  Dick Donahue for the snapping finger rub leg rub hand exercise.  Gary Tomsic for bringing down the age of his table.  Greg Iwasaki for telling Jack he looks good.  Tim Carpenter for looking at the banners and not having a clue what they represent. 

BANNERS:    Today's banners represented capitals of states.

PROGRAM:   Mike Kirkland, the Executive Director of Hospice Foundation, was today's speaker.  Mike started with a 5-minute video on Hospice and then introduced Karen who talked about what Hospice is.  Hospice teams have developed skills to bring comfort to people in the final stages of life.  Their goal is to provide comfort, dignity and value.  The challenge for them is to help the 10% of all Hospice patients who have no one at home or have no home to go to.  Hospice House will serve these patients.  The Whatcom Hospice Foundation (WHF) provides funding and improves awareness of Hospice services through community collaboration, compassionate care services and individual choice for end of life issues.  The concept for Hospice House was developed in 2002 and a feasibility study was completed in 2005.  They located a site at the end of 2007 - 2806 Douglas Street - which is the CatholicCommunityServicesMartinCenter.  The capital campaign was organized in January 2008 with the campaign to begin May 2008.  Their goal is to raise $5.2 million for a 12-bed facility with room to expand.  They expect to complete the fundraising campaign in two and a half years with the facility operational in 2010.
