MEETING TO ORDER:  President Ken called the meeting to order at 12:35 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Adam Finfer gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:   Pete Ruese from Sedro Woolley Rotary; Dewey Dessler from Bellingham Rotary; and Ron Kelley, Lyle Radley and Jeff Price from Mt Baker Rotary.

 

GUESTS:  None 

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  Tim Carpenter returned from a rotary sponsored trip to Honduras and he brought back a banner from the Trujillo Club.  Larry Pollett returned from a fantastic trip to Italy.

 

BIRTHDAYS:  Jack Curnow celebrates his birthday in the month of March.  Happy Birthday Jack!

 

ANNOUNCMENTS: Paul Cooley announced the career fair, which will be held on March 30th.  Out of 30 total presenters, 10 are left to be confirmed.  He passed out sign-up sheets for collating the student selection forms and help during the day of the event.  Bill Grace announced he is passing around a roster book so if anything has changed please update the information next to your name.  Marlene Sexton announced that the nomination deadline for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is April 15.  We have two in the budget but no nominations so far.  Tim Carpenter announced an upcoming rummage sale scheduled for the end of July to be held in the Ferndale School District, which was news to Roger Lehnert but he graciously acknowledged that "something" could be worked out. 

 

HAPPY BUCKS:  Larry Pollett for his recent trip to Venice and downhill skiing the 40 kilometer circle.  Bill Grace for our recent 70 degree weather and a Woodworking magazine if anyone is interested.  Marlene Sexton because she finally gets to go to California next week if United Airlines doesn't go out of business in the meantime.  Maureen McCarthy for her recent trip home to Chicago?  Lex Ludtke for his daughter (who attends WSU) traveling to Spain to do a semester of school abroad.  Paul Cooley for fifteen "successful" skydiving jumps.  Jerry Landcastle paid 100 pennies to celebrate the Ferndale Centennial on March 19th.  Rome Sarwas for his daughter's back surgery going so well.  Dan Parsons for the UW over WSU.  Scott Wallace for the other outcome.  Rich Jacobson for the inspiring Jake Locker story in the newspaper.  Roger Lehnert for the WSU win and a heartwarming story about his two grandchildren, ages 2 & 5, who put on Turbans, claiming to be Jesus and Moses.  Greg Thulin for a recent trip to Disneyland and having the courage to go on "all the rides".  Dick Nolan for riding his convertible on the recent sunny day we had.  Nancy Harrison for the upcoming "open house" at the new Cancer Center this weekend.  Hilary Baumstarck for a new puppy "Newfoundland" and a warning to all drivers that his son is taking his driver's test this afternoon.  Elizabeth Barnard for getting engaged last night (congratulations!)

 

FINEMASTER:  The Honorable Finemaster was Max Legg.  Elizabeth Barnard for not specifically mentioning "happy bucks".  Ken Richardson for rallying his resources to fill in for no program this afternoon.  Hilary Baumstarck for his new dog.  Nancy Harrison for being the last one in.  Sharon Robinson for a recent newspaper article, which mentioned her name several times.  Jerry Landcastle for the big centennial deal going on in Ferndale this year and for not inviting the Bellingham Herald.  Dewey Dessler for sitting at the same table as the Mayor of Ferndale.  Anyone wearing a short sleeve shirt.  Mary Kanikeberg for missing a couple of meetings.  Adam Finfer for giving a good impromptu invocation.  Patty Quanz for introducing visiting Rotarians off last week's sheet.  Tim Carpenter for presenting a wrinkled Banner from Trujillo Honduras and for the surprise "lease opportunity" to Roger Lehnert.  Rome Sarwas for his "message keeper" for missing this morning Board Meeting. 

 

 

BANNERS:   Today's theme was rotary clubs that begin with Mar, to reflect all the wonderful things that happen in the month of March.  The Ides of March (14th), St. Patrick's Day (17th) and the spring equinox (21st).  Tim Carpenter guessed correctly.

 

PROGRAM: There was no scheduled speaker but Tim Carpenter gave a preview of his upcoming complete presentation on his recent trip to Honduras.  He traveled with eight other Rotarians and shared a few anecdotes about a nine-hour bus trip and all the interesting people he met on the trip.  The purpose of the trip was to see first hand the success of the micro-lending program as well as the pure water program.  More on all this, with pictures, at a future date.
