MEETING TO ORDER:
President Scott called the meeting to order at 12:33pm and led us in the pledge of allegiance. Deb Wiggs provided the invocation.
GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANS:
Gary announced the visiting and guest Rotarians. From Bellingham Bay â¿¢ Stephanie Sadler and Frank Zurline; out of town â¿¢ George Tsakumis.
GUESTS:
Shirley Metcalf introduced her daughter, Sandy, and a friend, Michael Waters.
BIRTHDAYS:
Gary Snyder celebrated his 65th birthday on March 1, 2006; Happy Birthday Gary!
RETURNING ROTARIANS:
Doug Thomas (really?; Doug travels?) returned from a trip to California where he visited Carlsbad, San Diego and Torre Pines.
ANNOUNCMENTS:
Shirley Metcalf made a $10,000 contribution to the club for the Metcalf Memorial Project. The contribution was made possible by Michael Waters purchasing some property owned by Shirley. Thanks go out to Shirley and Michael for this generous contribution.
Doug T. indicated that the committee for the Metcalf Memorial Project would have a quick meeting after the club meeting. Also, the committee is working on a power point presentation for its fund raising. Presently, the project has raised the sum of $73,000.
HAPPY BUCKS:
Hilary enjoyed his family vacation to Carmel, CA. Bill G. was happy to see Shirley Metcalf. Gary Cordrey was able to make the commute to today's meeting with only two stops. Marlene was happy that her daughter was back in the US after spending time in Central America. Doug T. happy to see Shirley and happy for some golf he squeezed in on his "business" trip to CA. Randy C. is happy in general. Dan Parson's son, Zane, celebrated his 3rd birthday. Jerry L. happy about the successful fundraiser for Jacob Finkbonner. Dave Adamsom paid off some IOUs; happy about he and his wife being pregnant and passing the ½ way mark on their pregnancy; Jim Bliss was happy to get back into his house after 8 months; Deb Wiggs is going to Phoenix for a week; Max L. has an office employee whose husband is returning from Afghanistan; Phil B. provided happy bucks on behalf of Randy C. ⿢ Randy is happy he isn't pregnant.
FINEMASTER:
Doug Thomas, looking refreshed from his trip, took the podium and commenced fines for the following: anyone who has ever been a member of a union; Paul Cooley for store manager of the year; those who never served in the military; Maureen for the WTA actually making a good business decision; Pete K. for the new moratorium; Dan P. for not wearing a collared shirt; Dave A. â¿¢ you are not pregnant.
Banners: The banner is of our Club and is upside down signaling distress; represents the recent car crashes and deaths of teenage youth in our community.

New Member Speeches:
Gary Cordrey: Gary is employed with A.G. Edwards where he has worked as a stock broker for 17 years. He was born in Manhattan Beach, CA; received a BA from Cal Poly and spent 4 years in the Air Force. He is married to Diane, who has a PhD in psychology and has several books published. Diane was born and raised in Hawaii. Gary has 4 children and 9 grandchildren. His hobbies include: tennis; boating; fishing; reading and yard work.
Nancy Harrison: Nancy is a Chicago native and a graduate of Northwestern Univ. She moved out to Bellingham and worked at the old St. Lukes hospital. She has worked her way up the ladder and is now the VP of Business Development. Nancy is delighted to have the time in her life to be a part of Rotary. Nancy has two children; one is a daughter who is attending Evergreen College and the other is a son who is a senior at Squalicum HS and plans on attending UW next year. Her claim to fame is being a grand prize winner on the Bozo the Clown Show.
Marlene Sexton: For the past 13-14 years Marlene has been a marriage and family therapist. Prior to that she was a bartender. A majority of Marlene's internship was therapy for domestic violence and child abuse matters. Born in Bellingham, she moved to California when she was 2 and lived there until recently. After her children (2 daughters) graduated from college, her husband and she moved up to Bellingham. Her husband is a builder and a home wine maker (Marlene claims to be a home wine taster). One of her daughters is a pre-school teacher; the other one travels. Marlene is a daughter of Bob Bowman â¿¢ Bob if you are reading this, Marlene told a number of stories about you that can't be put into print.
