MEETING TO ORDER:  President-elect Tim Villhauer called the meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Gary Tomsic gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:     Bellingham: Jon Moles

                                                Out of Town: George Tsakumis

 

GUESTS:  Eric Nelson introduced his guest, Terry Lineaweaver; Stan Brunner introduced his Valentine, and wife of 68 years, Margaret.  Tim Villhauer introduced Ray George.

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  Josh came back from a dive vacation in Hawaii and Sharon from one to Bonaire.  Neither asked Jack Curnow for any advice, and so survived relatively unscathed.

 

BIRTHDAYS:  Jim Anderson, Bob Bowman and Greg Iwasaki will be celebrating birthdays this month.  

 

ANNOUNCMENTS:           

(1) Paul Cooley:  Career Fair will be 3/28/08 at WCC - if you have been assigned to, please sign up your speakers.

(2) Randy Carr:  Youth awards are coming up, committee is to meet after Rotary today.

(3)  Brian Finnegan:  May 9 will be the auction event.  The theme is "When you were a teenager," so come in a costume from that era.   Brain suggested that Mel in a loincloth would not be a pretty sight, so he might want to cheat a little bit. 

(4)  Bill Grace:  Roster updates - if you have not updated your info, please do so.  Also, the AAA has a fundraising cruise program that perhaps the fundraising committee would be interested in.

 

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:  Ray George, co-owner of The Sign Post, was inducted as our newest member.  Ray and his wife have four children.   Randy Carr preformed the relatively painless induction.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:  Brian Finnegan announced that he will be becoming a father sometime around his 40th birthday, this September.  Congratulations, Brian!  Tim Villhauer is happy to have Ray George in the club, as were many other members, and also that Tim will be traveling to New Zealand, where he hopes to visit Graham Harris.  Max Legg announced that he is suffering from electile dysfunction, and is unable to get excited about any of the political candidates.   The meeting pretty much went downhill fast from that point.   There were comments about sheep and goats, and also about something that happened between Randy Carr and Brian Finnegan on a boat.    Paul  Cooley told a confusing story about a criminal in his store, who may or may not have been vindicated by security videotape.  Bill Grace was not happy about the automated phone calls from the political candidates, but gave a buck anyway.   Eric Nelson was happy that pitchers and catchers are soon to report to spring training, and that reminded Tim Villhauer to be happy about the Mariner's new pitcher.  I say lets wait and see if he can pitch first.  Gary Tomsic was happy about the Blaine wrestlers going to the state tournament.  Stan Brunner was happy for 68 happy years with Margaret, George Tsakumis was happy for Brian's news, Bob Bowman was puzzled as to what Margaret could have been thinking 68 years ago.  Addie Brown was happy that she met her husband at a Valentine's Day party in 1972.  Scott Wallace was happy for a successful Junior Achievement fundraiser.  Dick Nolan was happy to announce a recent great-grandchild.  Josh Wilund was happy for a couple of things but the only one I heard was that he sometimes forgets that he is engaged (??)

Ray George for being a new member.

Roger Lehnert for always fining Jack.

Everyone - because Jack's Valentine is out of the country today.

Stan Brunner for being married so long.

 

BANNERS:    Maureen deciphered the message:  "This is the Day" for hearts and flowers.  Stan tried to tell folks that if they didn't have a Valentine yet, there were only a few hours remaining,  but Jack couldn't quite decipher his intent.
