MEETING TO ORDER: President Ken called the meeting to order at 12:55, following the program, and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tim Carpenter gave the invocation.
VISITING ROTARIANS: Lynn Masland from Sunrise Club, Jon Moles from the Bellingham Club, Myra How and Duane Callahan from Juneau, Alaska and George Tsakumis from Vancouver.
GUESTS: Leah from Junior Achievement.
RETURNING ROTARIANS: There were many, many returning Rotarians. My apologies if I missed anyone. Max Legg had been to Australia on a fabulous trip of three weeks; Doug Thomas was working hard in Kauai; Patty Quanz was in the Caribbean for nine days; Adam Finfer went to Palm Desert; Randy Carr went to Scottsdale; Hillary Baumstarck went to Carmel; Deb Wiggs to Las Vegas, LA, and Phoenix, not necessarily in that order; Brian (not to be outdone) Finnegan returned from Spokane and Marlene (dog sitter no ferry rider) Sexton was happily ensconced on Lummi Island.
BIRTHDAYS: Scott Wallace on December 2 and Eric (Our Chef) on November 27.
ANNOUNCMENTS: Sharon announced that she was collecting money to buy coats for Blue Skies for Children and our very generous club members donated $665 dollars, which is enough for 33 coats.
HAPPY BUCKS: Rose Abbaspour was happy to be able to remove a fallen tree from one of her rentals. Tim Carpenter remembered Pearl Harbor. Gary Tomsic was happy, at least partly, for the Borderites. Doug Thomas was happy that his wife came back from Bali. Scott Piper was happy for Meridian football. Mary Kanikeberg for the great performance of the choir. Roger Lehnert for the three Whatcom County teams that went to the state championships. Deb Wiggs was happy that our schools support the arts. George Tsakumis was happy (I'm sure it was not BECAUSE his wife broke her arm) he did not get a speeding ticket? Brian Finnegan also didn't get any speeding tickets. Max Legg was happy about his vacation and the Navy win. Scott Wallace was happy for the Cougs beating Gonzaga in basketball. Rich Jacobson was happy for the program and the Apple Cup outcome. Paul Cooley was very happy his store had a record week for sales and he also had a colonoscopy. Larry Pollett and Jake Smith were happy about yet another ski trip. Must be great to be retired!! Jake Smith was also happy for a "nice little win." Myra How, our guest, was glad to be away from the 53 degree below zero temperature in Whitehorse. Gary Snyder was happy to have his back repaired. Randy Carr for the music program. Bob Bowman was happy to be back on Lummi Island, but not to have to take care of his own dog. Marlene Sexton was happy to make a donation to the Metcalf foundation instead of writing Christmas cards.
FINEMASTER: Jim Bliss gave a very educational quiz with questions about the events of Pearl Harbor, most of which we were unable to answer. He also fined Cougars, the Navy alum (Max) and everyone who was gone and missed the snow.
BANNERS: I missed this part too. Were they in memory of Pearl Harbor?
PROGRAM: Kay Hageman led the Ferndale High School Swing Choir in a delightful selection of holiday favorites. These musical events are always a treat and today was no exception.
DRAWING: Julie had the winning ticket but drew a King.
