MEETING TO ORDER:  President Tim Villhauer called the meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tony Cubelis gave the invocation

BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES:  Scott Wallace December 2nd

 

RETURNING ROTARIANS:  Jack Curnow - 3 weeks in South Africa and England; Eric Nelson; Doug Thomas - a Coug affair of some sort

 

ANNOUNCMENTS:  President Tim let us know that our Club, the Monday Club and the Tuesday Club are sponsoring the WWU Viking Bowl Game.

- Rick Staeb read a letter from Brad Peterson who is now undergoing intensive treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance facilities.  Nice to hear from you Brad.  We are all pulling for you good friend.  For those interested in getting in touch with Brad and Tricia, you can contact them at 525 Minor Avenue North, Seattle, WA98109.

- Eric Nelson spent a few minutes discussing the concept of a Club in a Club.  The intent is to recruit new members to the Club.  So be thinking of potential new members and Eric will have more information as time goes on.

- Now is the time to sign up for Salvation Army Belling Ringing opportunities.

- President Tim also led a discussion about whether the Club would like to consider a move back to Ferndale or another location in the northern part of the county. There will be additional discussions over the next couple of weeks after which a vote will be taken.

 

HAPPY BUCKS:   The following people were happy:  Jack Curnow was happy to be back from Africa.  Sounds as though he had a great time.  Said he met a great deal of Obama supporters.  Scott Wallace was happy about a trip over to Wazzu.  He also mentioned that he saw Gene and Karen Terrell and that they said hello to everyone.  Nancy Tieman had some bitter sweet dollars.  She and her daughter planned a trip to Thailand but weren't able to go due to the problems at the Bangkok airport.  The good news though is that both of them are safe and we like that.  Bill Rose said that George Tsakumis had to leave early and wanted to give $5 dollars.  He was also happy for the great job that the band did today and for already getting his Christmas cards in the mail.  This drew a round of booooos from certain Rotarians who must always be late in getting their cards out, if ever.  Doug Thomas was happy about the Apple Cup.  I also heard him mumbling something about hoping that Ty would get a contract extension at UW.  Phil Bratt was happy about the band.  Jerry Landcastle was happy about something.  My notes are too garbled to make them out.  Roger Lehnert said he attended the first and last birthday party for his 4 year old grandson.  He was happy about the Cougar victory, about the colors that Randy Carr was wearing and that he will retire on June 30, 2008.  (Roger, Ferndale will certainly miss all that you have done for the kids over the years.  You will leave a very big and positive mark on the whole community.)  Lex Ludtke was coerced into being happy just to get his money.  Sharon Robinson was happy about a brand spanking new grandbaby born on Election Day.  Erin Nelson gave $24 happy bucks for 24 years of wedded bliss (at least for him, he wasn't so sure about his wife).  He is still scratching his head about why his wife still claims him.

 

FINEMASTER:     Randy Carr was today's Finemaster.  He first tagged Jake Smith for being the last one in.  He tagged most of the club for not sitting at one of the front tables.  Maureen McCarthy was fined for low diesel fuel and continued high ridership on WTA buses.  Randy hit up Lex Ludtke about having to be reminded to be happy.  Brian Finnegan got ripped for something.  Scott Wallace paid $5 for the Wallace $5 rule. All Coug supporters paid $2 and all UW supporters had to pay $5.  Randy started to fine Roger for the band but gave him a pass for the very fine job the band did today.  Phil Bratt paid $2 rather than throwing his hat in the ring for a nomination for Club President.  Tim Villhauer got fined for passing out Edward Jones pens with another name on them. Randy fined Jack Curnow for something off the wall.  Nice job Randy.

 

Banners:      In recognition of December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day.  Thanks Stan for putting the banners together every week.

 

PROGRAM:          Roger introduced the Ferndale High School Band under the direction of Steve Minify. The band played a selection of Christmas and holiday songs. Today's band is the "sit down" version of the marching band, which won a big band award just recently. Congratulations. The band did a great job, and a big, tall band member named Josh did a wonderful solo piece on his soprano sax on the last number. GREAT JOB FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL BAND.  The band will play its Christmas concert on December 18th at 7 p.m. at the Ferndale High auditorium. You need to get there early as it fills up quickly.  One of the parents, Charles Schmidley, mentioned that the Ferndale Band Boosters will have a fundraiser on February 7, 2009.  Roger, thank you for sharing the band with us. It's always a very special treat to see these young adults perform so very well and represent FerndaleHigh School in a big way.
