Meeting To Order :  President Thulin called the meeting to order at 12:28, and Mel Hollinger gave the invocation.

 

Program :  Today we had the second week of three very special musical treats as Roger Lehnert introduced the Ferndale High School Advanced Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Joe Divik, played a selection of Christmas music which included the following pieces: Overture of the Messiah, Yuletide Rag, Festival of Lights, Christmas Song, Silent Night and Charlie Brown Christmas. The orchestra consists of a group of amazing young people who really have a passion for their music, and it showed. It was a pleasure just to sit back and listen, and be amazed at the accomplishments of these fine students. The last musical program of this Christmas season will be on December 20th. The Ferndale High School Choir will be performing. You won't want to miss this third installment of hearing these fine young students from FerndaleHigh School. Thanks again Roger for arranging all of this. It's always a pleasure.

Announcements :  The meeting on December 20th will include a social during and following the meeting.  Randy Carr encouraged folks to stay and socialize.  Also, fines and happy bucks from December 20th will be gathered as the "tip" for the wait staff at Northwood Hall.  Fines and happy bucks from today's meeting will be going to the Salvation Army.  Bill Grace is still collecting for the Food Bank.  He reported that he has already delivered about 230 pounds of food so far.  Thanks Bill.  Tim Carpenter announced the pool for the BCS and Rose Bowl games, and folks can join in for $5 a pop.  Jerry Landcastle announced that on Friday, December 14th, the City of Ferndale would dedicate the new CentennialRiverWalkPark in which there will be 3 totems from the House of Tears Lummi Carvers.  There will be no meeting on December 27th.  The Board approved the "Bay 2 Bay Supported Bicycle Ride."  This will be a fundraiser for the club, and the target dates will be the last weekend in August before Labor Day, August 23rd and 24th, 2008.  The ride will total 100 plus miles over two days, approximately 50 miles per day.  Starting at the Bellwether on the Saturday and riding around LakeWhatcom and up to MapleFalls for an overnight.  Saturday night will include a whole host of activities.  After breakfast on Sunday, the riders will be off to their final destination of BirchBay. More details will be coming about this exciting event.  Dick Donahue is coordinating the event.  Thanks Dick.

 

Happy Bucks :  Greg Thulin gave $2.  George Tsakumis gave $100 to the Food Bank. Bill Grace was happy for George to be a part of us in the club.  Dick Donahue updated us on the devastation in Chehalis where the damage even eroded 3 bridges amongst other things.  Tony Cubellis gave $2 and was happy about something dealing with email.  Jerry Landcastle was happy about having been on a 3 week vacation in Hawaii with his family and attending the UW game there.  Lynne Masland gave some bucks for the Salvation Army as did a number of others.  Nancy Tieman has been busy working on the Madronna project for the hospital.  She announced the opening of the "JointCenter" (cute) at St. Josephs to handle joint replacements.  Patients are now being seen at the "Joint" and operations are ongoing with great results.  Way to go Nancy.  Mel Hollinger reported from the rowdy table that his hearing there in the back was as bad as it was sitting at the table up front next to the podium.  He was happy to know that his hearing was equally as bad everywhere thus giving him more freedom to roam.  Jake Smith gave bucks for the Salvation Army and the musical program.  Rich Jacobson was happy to have been on vacation in Hawaii with his family.  Jim Bliss gave some bucks for bell ringing in Blaine. He was amazed at a bicyclist from the Netherlands who stopped and chatted about having ridden all over the world, and who was about to start retracing his path which started in September 2006.  Pretty amazing.  Phil Bratt was proud of his Dutch heritage after hearing Jim's story.  He was also proud of Pete Kremen for exercising his veto power over the County Council.  Tim Carpenter was happy about finishing a matching grant application and added some bucks for the Salvation Army.

 

Finemaster :  Randy Carr was today's finemaster.  He fined Roger Lehnert for leaving early.  Jake was fined for spilling water, but Rome Sarwas jumped in to pay for Jake. Randy inflicted a fine upon himself for being the last in to the meeting.  Randy also reported that he somehow got ramrodded in being today's finemaster after some shenanigans pulled on him by Dick Langabeer.  Apparently Dick lead Randy to believe that somehow Tim Carpenter was to be the finemaster.  Sounds like some whining going on.  Anyway, Randy fined Dick $20 in abstentia.  All very confusing, but we got some money out of it.  Paul Cooley was tagged for something.  Jack Curnow was tagged for showing up on the music program as being one of the arrangers of Silent Night (or was that just J. Curnow on the program).

 

Banners :  Stan Brunner presented three banners that in combination provided the message that Whatcom County North Rotary loves music.  Stan also asked what Jack Curnow and Silent Night have to do with each other.  Thanks Stan.
