MEETING TO ORDER:  President Ken called the meeting to order at 12:35 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.   Gary Tomsic gave the invocation.

 

VISITING ROTARIANS:   Lynn Masland was Visiting from Sunrise Rotary was Lynn Masland; visiting from Bellingham Bay Rotary was Patti Imhof; visiting from Vancouver Rotary was George Tsakumis and visiting all the way from Livonia New York was Cal Lathan.

 

GUESTS:  Rose Abbaspour's guest was her daughter Nina, from Newport News, Virginia, and Jerry Landcastle's guest was friend and neighbor Cal Lathan.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:       

1. Our Foundation Dinner will be November 16th, with social hour at 5:30 and dinner at 6:00.  (Doesn't that make it a social half-hour?).  The District Governor will be our speaker and honored guest.  Turnout for the dinner has been less than spectacular in recent years so it would be great to have a good turnout to see the District Governor.

 

2. Bill Grace circulated a correction to the roster update from last week.  Elizabeth Barnard's e-mail was wrong, so please be sure to get the corrected one.

 

3. Tim Carpenter reiterated, re-emphasized and reinforced everything President Ken said about the Foundation Dinner, to wit, "Please be there, it's important and fun!" 

 

HAPPY BUCKS:  Rich Jacobsen was happy for Cal's visit and an upcoming trip to New York; Bill Grace brought a strange looking vegetable that looks like yellow broccoli.  Only Paul Cooley knows for sure what it is, and he's  not here to tell; Sharon Robinson was happy we raised nearly $10,000 for Adelante at the event last night; Scott Wallace was happy the Cougars are finally, barely, squeaking into the BCS ratings; Larry Pollett was yeah, yeah for the cougars; Greg Thulin was happy his kidney stones have been blasted into oblivion, but his kids are not willing to save him, if it ever came to that; Dick Nolan was happy tooling around town in his Mercedes; Rome Sarwas is happy the University of Wisconsin is doing great this year; Elizabeth Barnard was happy she sold her first ever flawless diamond; Rose Abbaspour was happy her daughter has to go home tomorrow and Brian Finnegan was happy he grew two inches after seeing a chiropractor.

 

FINEMASTER:  Phil Bratt was today's Finemaster.  He fined Rose Abbaspour for missing her keys; Dick Langabeer for missing his badge; Ed Brown for not being happy enough about grandkids; Ken Richardson for getting more abuse about the Lummi Island Ferry; Jim Bliss for suffering through the World Series rain delay; Jake Smith, Tim Villhauer and Randy Carr for not recalling the Rotarian magazine cover; Everyone over 60 for getting a vaccine for shingles and Brian Finnegan for not being nice to cougars, and for being known the world over as a leaf blower.

 

BANNERS:   This week's banners represented the home clubs of Past District Governors.  Another good one, Stan!

 

PROGRAM: Paul Grabau and Peter Jewett of Farallon Consulting presented the latest rules for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, an important step in the due diligence process for anyone considering purchasing real estate.

 

DRAWING:  Dave Engels had the lucky number but drew the King of Clubs.
