Meeting to Order
: President Thulin called the meeting to order at 12:36, and Gary Tomsic gave the invocation.
Visiting Rotarians
: Harte Bressler (BellinghamBay) and George Tsakumis (Vancouver) were our visiting Rotarians today.
Guests
: Tim Villhauer's wife, Patty and guest Randy Klemann from Graphic Northwest. Marlene Sexton's daughter, Alison and husband to be Cash.

Returning Rotarians
: Gary Tomsic from a week in Dallas to visit daughter and son-in-law. Chuck Tull drove to Peoria, Arizona for fun in the sun.

President Greg said the wait staff received over $1,100 from the generous Rotarians who attended the December 20th meeting.

Tim Villhauer announced the 2008 Officer's and Board Members: President Tim Villhauer, President Elect Chuck Tull, Secretary Gary Tomsic, and Director's Dan Parsons, Randy Carr, Maureen McCarthy, Paul Cooley and Sharon Robinson.

Tim Carpenter announced the results of the Rose Bowl Pool: 1st Q winner Chuck Tull, 2nd Q winner Tim Villhauer, 3rd Q winner Tim Carpenter and 4th Q winner Sharon Robinson. The WCNR Foundation received $113.75.

Bill Grace announced that he is updating the roster so if any changes please get them to him.

Tim Carpenter announced that on January 17th, Gene Vickers, the Assistant District Governor will be our speaker and Tim said he is an exciting motivational guy and everyone needs to attend and bring a guest.
Happy Bucks
: President Greg had a good Holiday time with his family. Scott Piper is happy Dan Pike is our speaker and shared that Dan ran up Sehome Hill in 3:25 (now that's fast). Marlene Sexton is happy to have her daughter and son-in-law here. Sharon Robinson for winning one of the "pools" and she is graciously giving her "winnings" to Polio Plus. Jack Curnow gloated about USC's win in the Rose Bowl. Brian Finnegan has been married for 13.5-years and spent Christmas at Whistler having a great time skiing. Mel Hollinger can't hear at the new table. Bob Bowman had $10 for his granddaughter being here today and to let everyone know that Marlene and Alison got their "good looks" from him. Dan Baker was $10 happy for something. Paul Cooley was happy that Hilary Baumstarck stopped by to say hi, for attending another class at WCC, and he shaved off his mustache with proceeds going to the Women's Care Shelter in Lynden. Ken Richardson was happy to see Brad Peterson back and for the good attendance. Tim Villhauer was happy to win one of the "pools". George Tsakumis was happy to see Brad Peterson and melons from Canada, which is a "no-no". Scott Wallace was happy to see Brad Peterson. Brad Peterson was happy for a Mexican holiday, to have his hair back although his "cowlick" now goes in the other direction. Winton Smith is looking for college sophomores and junior's to receive Scottish Scholarships. Max Legg said we should all be glad we have hair to keep us warm. Roger Lehnert had $42 for 42 blissful years of marriage. Bill Grace was happy for his brother-in-law and Christmas Tree farm and Rotary in OakHarbor. Chuck Tull is happy to be President Elect and happy to have won one of the "pools" even though he doesn't know how it works. Tim Carpenter is happy to have survived the Holidays and for the "pool" participation. Dan Parsons is happy for a trip to the Midwest and a valuable gambling lesson learned. Bob Bowman was happy to have granddaughter Alison be a future Paul Harris Fellow.
Finemaster
: Roger Lehnert was our Finemaster today and he started by calling in all IOU's: Brian Finnegan $2, Randy Carr $1 & $2, Phil Bratt $1, Jerry Landcastle $2, Rome Sarwas $35 and $5. Maureen McCarthy was fined for WTA's screwed up bidding process, but Tim Carpenter stepped up and paid the fine. Gary Tomsic was fined because Drayton Harbor changed its name to Blaine Harbor. Jerry Landcastle was thanked for his efforts in getting the Riverfront Walk in Ferndale. Phil Bratt was fined $6 in retaliation for fining Roger Lehnert in the past. Scott Wallace was fined for being an avid goose hunter. Brad Peterson was fined for coming back. Randy Carr was not fined because he's not here. If your team won a bowl game you need to stand up and donate $2. Jack Curnow was fined for being an obnoxious USC fan. If your team was not in a bowl game you need to pay $2 - eighteen people stood up on this one. Anyone who did not participate in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing needs to pay a buck. Husky fans were asked to stand and contribute a buck because they lost their defensive coach to Neweasel. Sharon Robinson for reading the Rotarian during the USC blowout. Ken Pollett for helping old people up the drive-way.
Program
: Tim Villhauer introduced today's speaker, new Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike. Dan is a graduate of WWU and he has a Master's Degree from Harvard. Dan presented his promises for his first 100 days in office (March 6, 2008). Work on protecting the LakeWhatcom watershed by providing incentives to homeowners in reducing run-off. Work with Neighborhoods and developers to reach consensus in future residential development. Environment is very important and to this end Dan will work with the WTA to increase ridership and cut down on driving. The Permitting Process is cumbersome with people on both sides of the table unhappy. He has appointed a facilitator to work with the City and citizens to streamline the process and remove bottlenecks. Dan wants more open communication with the community and will be more visible in the community and will appear regularly on local radio shows. Downtown parking is a problem and one of the things he will do is encourage City employees to park less by using WTA. He will work with the Port of Bellingham to look for areas of agreement with a focus on developing areas of commonality. Finally, he mentioned the City's storm water system needs to be upgraded.
