Message from Tim Carpenter

Fellow Whatcom North Rotarians:   As you know, by February we will be about halfway through the three year cycle of the micro-lending grant being administered by the Adelante Foundation in north coastal Honduras.

I have been keeping in touch with the Adelante folks and, by all accounts, the unrest in Honduras does not seem to be having any effect on humanitarian programs.  So far, there seems to be no violence, just rhetoric; one portion of the vested elite arguing with the other.

Many of you have expressed interest in going to Honduras, in many cases, going again.  February is a great month for the weather there.  The rainy season is over, and the higher heat and humidity of summer is yet to come.

I will not be able to go on this trip, but will at the end of the three year cycle.  However, I would hope that some among you who would like to go have been there before, and know your way around.  In any event,  the Adelante Foundation folks entertain visitors and benefactors on a regular basis. They can schedule all aspects of the trip, depending on what events, sights and sites you would like to see.  I would be glad to be the middleman if appropriate.  There is also ample opportunity to go earlier, or stay longer, to expand the experience, either in Honduras or the surrounding countries.

Please respond to me by email, if you have any interest, about at least the following, and anything else you want to know:

Good dates ;

How long you want to be there;

What you want to see (including where you want to go);

any special interests you have that might get satisfied.

Of course, the trip will include visits to Assemblies of loan recipients and there business sites.
