Meeting to Order:  In President Tim's absence, President-Elect, Chuck T. called the meeting to order at 12:30 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Pete K. gave the invocation.

Visiting Rotarians:  George Tsakumis from Vancouver, B.C.  Jeff Price from Mt. Baker and D.C. Morse from Bellingham Club.  Welcome everyone!

Birthdays:  Happy Birthday to Addie (21st) and Rich J. (22nd). 

Announcements:  Dan B. stood in for Brian F. (who was off to babysit his daughter, but was wearing a purple shirt with a big W on it.)  Anyway, Dan reminded us of the need to recruit friends and family to the Auction on May 8th.  There will be a Caribbean theme, with pork roast, salads, and bar.  The cost is $50 per person and is considered quite the deal!  REMEMBER THIS IMPORTANT DATE:  April 24th at 5:00  This is when Brian must have the list of attendees as well as the list of Auction items and their values. You may e-mail Brian with this information.  He is also working on hotel discounts for those who might want to stay over.  We need to fill 15 tables and some of the proceeds go to Humane Society and Whatcom Literacy Council.  Pete R. announced the Career Fair.  On Monday March 30th, people will meet at 6:00pm at Whatcom Community College.  They will be sorting and scheduling Student Requests.  We need about 10 members and it will last about 2 hours.  Pizza and Beverages will be provided.   Then on Thursday April 2nd, members will go to Whatcom Community College at 8:00 am and help in a number of categories where they are needed.  We need about 15 members for this and if all goes as planned; everyone should be done by 1:00pm.  There will be no Rotary Meeting or that Board Meeting that day.  Career Choices 2009 is the top priority and this event is a considered a make-up.  There will be sign up sheets at the next meeting.  Chuck T. reminded us of the District Assembly on April 4thand Rome had a reminder to donate orphaned instruments to Meridian Middle School. Instruments are badly needed and appreciated!  Chuck also reminded us of the District Conference at the end of May.  More information will be coming.  Bill G. had Car show Flyers on the table for us to put up in our businesses.  He also passed around a card for Brad P. 

Happy Bucks:  Chuck T. began with $ as he had a tooth pulled.  He encouraged everyone to be happy not to have impacted teeth.  Rich J. was happy for Huskies Basketball and that he and his son Tyler got their diving certificates.  (They went out into open waters during a snow storm!)  Maureen was happy that she was able to accept the low energy in the room and happy for all the work Pete R. has done for the Career Fair.  Also happy that she saw Char Hart and Rick Staeb at Running on the Green.  And she had happy $ for Rachel Myers who will do our Program today.  Bill G. was happy for 2 weeks he and Kris spent in Carlsbad, CA.  Unfortunately they left the sun there.  He also was happy for putting picnic tables together at Meridian H.S.  Ken R. had sad $ because Bob Bowman's party is printing money to solve the Nat'l debt.  Jack C. had happy $ for the "Trojans" and Rome had happy bucks because the l908 Model T is better than a new SUV.

Finemaster:  Max Legg was absent, so Chuck assigned each table to collect fines.  Stan fined Mel and Gary T. for being absent.  Bob B. fined Stan for reasons unknown.  Julie J fined everyone who didn't have two cookies ($1).  Scott W. fined Bob B. and made it the Wallace Rule (again, reasons unknown!)  George T. fined everyone $1 because he could.  Greg I. fined everyone who was not wearing a pin ($1) Rich J. fined all USC Trojan FAN ($1) and all non-bankers fined $1.  Tim C. fined all Bankers $2.  Lex was filled with empathy for all the fines he has had and didn't fine anyone.  And an IOU was put in the pot for Max Legg who was supposed to be finemaster!

Banners:  Tim C.  guessed the St. Paddy's Day theme AND the season change making us go from Dark to Light.  (Stan noted that today (19th) falls between St. Patrick's Day and the Vernal Equinox.)

Program:  Rachel Myers from Whatcom Literacy Council did our program today and had a Thank you for us for making them a recipient of our fundraiser.  She showed a video how learning to read changes a person's whole life and the life of their family.  The WLC serves between 400-500 adults per year in Whatcom County and they are always looking for volunteers to teach their learners.  Log on to www.whatcomliteracy.org to see how you can become a tutor or help a friend or family member.
