The Rodger Hamilton Wildflower Reserve Lookout Tower

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams has officially named the lookout tower located in the Rotary Wildflower Reserve off Sulphur Road adjacent to the Kwinana train station.
It was named in honour of the late Rodger Hamilton, a member of the Rotary Club of Kwinana.
Special guests at the ceremony were Rodger Hamilton’s wife Judy and members of his family and friends and Kwinana Mayor, Carol Adams. They were joined by members and partners from Rotary Kwinana.

  • Today we meet to commemorate and remember the late Rodger Hamilton, a past Kwinana Rotary President and without doubt a stalwart of our community.
 
  • It is my pleasure, especially here in the company of Rodger’s wife Judy and her family, to officially name the tower, The Rodger Hamilton Wildflower Lookout Tower.
 
Kwinana Councillor and Rotary Member Bob Thompson spoke and provided information on the tower and on Rodger Hamilton.
 
Bob said that Past President Rodger Hamilton’s Rotary Service to the community can best be summed up in Rotary’s motto “Service above Self”
 
Rodger had joined the Rotary Club of Kwinana in December 1988 and hit the ground running. His community service through Rotary continued unabated till his recent death.
 
While Roger’s approach to everything he did was quiet and unassuming he blew all the members away with his suggestion that a lookout tower be constructed at the Rotary Wildflower Reserve.
 
Rodger supervised the construction, assembly off site and the eventual on-site erection using kindly made available materials and labour at BHP Steel then located on the Kwinana industrial strip. 
 
The final phase saw two 20 tonne semi-trailers and a twenty tonne crane arranged by Rodger.  They made their way struggling through what was then a sandy track to erect the metal tower which stands nearly 11 metres tall.
 
The view from the tower is wonderful, Bob said, you can look over the Spectacles Wetlands and the Rotary Wildflower reserve. The reserve is alive at present with lots of wildflowers in bloom. It’s a must visit spot for families to enjoy, he added.
 
The naming of the tower in after him is a fitting tribute to Rodger Hamilton for his outstanding contribution to the Kwinana Community.
