A request from John Kevan, President of the Rotary Club of Applecross for a donation toward a very large project in Sri Lanka was discussed by members at the Thursday meeting and afterwards considered by the Board. As a result, the Board has agreed to contribute $2000 toward this project.
- This is a humanitarian project in Sri Lanka to install laboratory equipment and provide training in regional hospitals.
- It is DG Melodie Kevans’ flagship project for the District and the total budget with grants is $240,000.
- John Kevan visited the hospitals, training University and met with Government officials in late May this year and have full support from four Rotary Clubs and the DG, who is really keen to see this happen.
- As well as Collie becoming involved, our district and other clubs in Australia and the USA have pledged funds wishing to become involved in the Global Grant using funding from the Rotary Foundation.
- Still several thousand dollars to reach target, John is optimistic this project will get the approval for this Global Grant project in Sri Lanka.
- I've linked an information booklet from John Kevan explaining the purpose and benefit of the project.
