Kola Alayande, Ph.D. is our District Governor 2018-19 - **Our service to other people is the rent we pay for the privilege of being alive.**

Presenter(s): Two Rivers Public Schools – Craig Rysticken and the FBLA Executive Team

  1. (Bob G.) Correspondence:  A “get-well” card was circulated to express our Club’s wishes on a quick recovery for Betty B.
 
 
  1. (Bob G.) 2018 District Grant – final steps and reporting out by 5/15…Report on Recycling Container assembly and placement. 
 
  1. (Bob G.) 2019 District Grant – Finalizing Ideas -  Deadline is June 1st  A proposal was advanced for Club support – A Kid’s Learning Center hosted by the Lester Public Library.  The proposal and subsequent grant application will be finalized at the upcoming Board meeting.
 
 
  1. (Bob G.) Volleyball Tournament –  Michael D. and Jean A. have agreed to co-chair this event with strong Club support also offered!  Deb P. has joined in the planning process with the second meeting held on May 13th.  Questions raised included: a. the advisability of Friday hours?, b. solicitation of food/water donations (Deb P. will make the contacts), c. offer of coordination with the concurrent Kiwanis Club’s Fish Derby and d. the need for liability insurance.  We will reach out to Betty B. for input on these questions.  Once the schedule is finalized, an event announcement, promotion and invitations will be created.
 
  1. (Bob G.) Save the Swales – Monday, May 20th… yet another activity deserving of Rotary support.  All club members invited to assist in unloading 3,500 trees at Bugler Property, May 20th – timing is TBD with the suggestion made to contact Woodland Dunes for details.
 
  1. (Bob G.) Looking into the “crystal ball” – event plans for the next couple of months
 
  • End of Year Celebration is scheduled for June 25th at Terragahlia.  Colleen I. will be providing the chicken, Tim S. will coordinate the craft beer procurement and the rest of the menu will be Club member “potluck”.  An event invitation and sign-up will be forthcoming.
  • 5th Tuesday Social (July 30th)…Manitowoc Yacht Club – a multi-club gathering starting at 5:30pm
 
  1. (Bob G.)  Event Sign-up – pass the “binder” around – please review during breakfast, noting responsibilities/opportunities, sign up!  Please note program assignments and greeter assignments are posted through July 2ndThis information is also available on-line...if questions arise concerning sign-ups…please consult the site as a first source of information.   
 
Note: Colleen printed a list of club members and contact information and put this in the front pocket of the binder, asking everyone to review their contact information and place a check your name when you’ve finished reviewing, if no changes.
 
  1. (Bob G.) Meals on Wheels:  This is our week!  Thanks for all of those that signed up.  Our next opportunity is July 16-19.
 
  1. (Bob G.)  Scholarship – Stanley P. coordinated the scholarship process with help from Brenda G. and Betty B.  Stanley reported that a worthy recipient has been selected – presenting an exemplary work ethic and academic performance….a former Junior Rotarian as well!  Stanley will represent our Club at the awards ceremony on May 22nd – presenting the award.
 
  1. (Bob G.) World Affairs Seminar – participant recruitment (2 positions) needed.  This is a great opportunity for a local student (s) to engage with peers from around the country (in our own backyard).
 
  1. (Bob G.) Reminder: collection box for recycling items for The Haven.  CLEAN plastic recyclable items are being collected.  In addition to our Club’s collection site, members can drop their personal collection at The Haven during normal business hours.
 
  1. (Bob G.) Happy Bucks – Brian J. facilitated and passed the buck to Jean A.
 
  1. (Bob G.) Program – TR Public Schools – Craig Rysticken and the FBLA Executive Team…our State Champion Team will be traveling to San Antonio in late June to compete in two events – a Self Defense Class and an eBusiness proposal.  Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is an organization that fosters growth in our members by giving them opportunities to develop their individual skills and participate in events that help provide a bridge between school and the working world.
