This morning we heard from Linda Ross the CEO of the WA Australian Postal Institute social club.
Linda, shown here with club member Jodie, is a very busy person. She did list off a number of other things she is involved in, but today she wanted to talk to us about something she is very passionate about - and that is the Australian Postal Institute of WA - which she is the CEO for.
The Australian Postal Institute was first established in 1918 in NSW to enable the workers to socialise with each other regardless of nationality or creed. A local group was established in WA in 1925 to provide benefits to employees of the postal system. Over the years as the telecommunications industry changed, so too did the social club.
In WA it is now open to the public; and for an annual membership fee, people have access to holiday homes, travel services, online shopping services and can access the function room located in Cannington. They have corporate memberships as well. Linda has many plans for the facilities they have access to, including building a museum to house telecommunications memorabilia; and upgrading the kitchen facilities at their function room to provide low cost meals for seniors and for those wanting to hire the room.
What an eye-opener that was. Linda thank you for coming, your enthusiasm for your job was inspiring.
