This morning Anthea from Little Things for Tiny Tots came to talk to us. This is not the first time she's been here, so it was lovely to welcome her back to hear more from her.

Anthea (in the centre) spoke earlier about the work they are doing at Little Things for Tiny Tots. Today we wanted to give her a donation of $1000 to help do the things they do. It appears that there is a huge gap in the provision of support to struggling new mums who are in need of assistance. Their research shows that over 100,000 children are in poverty - that is one child in six. They have helped over 7,000 families in the past year and expect those numbers to rise. They have provided almost $2 m worth of goods and for every $1 donated, they can deliver approximately $8 in services to those in need.
They could do more, but they currently need more space to be able to store donated items, so are currently in talks with their local city council. They appreciated the support that groups have provided as it has meant they can increase the number of people they assist.
As a Rotary Club we kept thinking of how we might be able to help so if you would like to help us help them, these are the things we think we can do to support Little Things for Tiny Tots:
- They are hoping to add a book into every box of goods they provide to these families as it is really important that young children have access to books from an early age - we could help there by sourcing new or second hand books in good condition that could be given to them
- They want to give toiletry bags to new mums, through their One Mother to Another programme so that Mums on Mothers' Day can get something for themselves - we could help there too by looking out for toiletries and/or bags that could be used
- They are always looking for people who can come and sort items, and pack boxes - we could help there as well - so we'll be organising a day when this can happen.
- They are often short of people who are willing to wrap Christmas presents at Christmas time - we could certainly help there as we have members and/or partners who love wrapping presents.
