This morning we heard from Rob Geersen, Starkick coordinator.  Wow, what an amazing programme this is.
This morning we heard about a wonderful community programme called 'Starkick'.  It is an opportunity for young people to play in Australia's favourite sport - football.  Rob is a father of 2 boys, and when he realised that his son who has cerebral palsy couldn't play football with his friends, he decided to do something about it.

Commencing with 1 club in 2015 they now have 24 clubs running across the state from Karratha in the north to Albany in the south.

These clubs are run by the community for their community to encourage young people with a disability to get to know what it feels like to be involved, playing a sport they love, and get that sense of belonging that comes with being a member of a team.

Starkick is not a charity, although funding is definitely needed to get the ball rolling.  The young people pay fees (just like everyone else in a club does) and parents get involved in doing the jobs that need to be done within any club situation.

We would love to see more young people having the opportunity to get out and get involved in playing sport.
