This morning we were delighted to welcome two guest speakers. Stuart is the Treasurer of WA Pedal Prix and Jude is a member of Wright Trikes. Ascot Rotary is sponsoring the first Grand Prix as well as sponsoring the Wright Trikes team for the four race season. 
Pedal Prix started in South Australia and was taken up in WA in 2014 where 32 teams of human powered recumbent bikes fought it out in Busselton. Today a series of 4 events are run at various locations around WA. Teams of u to 18 must keep their vehicle going for approximately 6 hours. The objective is to finish the race, not necessarily being the winner of the race. Riders, managers, pit-crew and media expertise are all required so teamwork is key. WA Pedal Prix hopes to grow the event from the current 40 teams to closer to 80 teams. These teams could be school based or community based teams. The cost of a pedal powered bike can vary from $2,000 - $18,000 depending on the materials it is manufactured with.
Ascot Rotary Club has got involved in this year's race series, by sponsoring the event to be held this coming Sunday at Wanneroo International Kartway, 1 Wattle Ave East, Neerabup. The first race commences at 9.30 am and a second race starts at 1 pm. All are welcome to come out and cheer the contestants on. We have also sponsored the Wright Trike team for the season. There are two events in the city (the second one being at Splendid Park in Yanchep) and 2 in the country - one in Bunbury and the other in Busselton.
