No Trip to Europe is Complete until . . . .

Club members Stephen and Joanna recently travelled to Europe where they had an amazing time.

 

They visited a number of countries including Germany, Austria, Romania and Denmark.  Aside from attempting to eat a half metre long hot dog (and succeeding) Stephen and Joanna made time to visit Neuschwanstein Castle to get a feel for what it looked like before visiting it's replica at Legoland.  It seems that they were followed around by some rather snowy weather because the photos Stephen showed us this morning looked particularly wintry.  They also found time while in Austria to try out a horse drawn carriage ride around Shonbrunn Palace in Vienna, find the house in Saltzburg where Mozart was born and go to the oldest salt mine at Altstadt. 

 

This was all before venturing into Transylvania territory in Romania.  According to Joanna, if this area was not on your bucket list before, then it should be.  It is well worth the effort of getting there.  The buildings were incredible, the history was amazing and what they are trying to do now is even more amazing.  The food was interesting and the opportunity to try a new sport was there for the taking.  Stephen showed photos of him trying out 'axe throwing' - and apparently he got all 5 axes he was given into their targets. 

 

Needless to say, part of the purpose of the trip was to get to Billund in Denmark to go on the VIP tour which enabled Stephen and Joanna to speak to Lego staff; and to go down into the vaults where I'm sure Stephen shed a tear or two at the number of sets that are housed there that he won't be able to purchase to add to his collection.  Included in that was one that he requested as a present when he was very young, but due to a misunderstanding was never given.  At least he got to hold it for a moment or two when he was in the Vault.
