President Peter has just now been informed that we have been successful in our submission to the JCLA (John Curtin Leadership Academy) to obtain support for Bricktober.

Breaking news today is that President Peter has been informed that our application to JCLA to have their students be involved in the advertising of Bricktober has been successful.  More information will follow.

At the meeting this morning the following directors spoke about their actions and/or plans for the year:

Garry gave a 3 minute presentation to some 30 JCLA students at their recent camp.  The students then had the chance to discuss more fully the details of our project with him.  About 12 students spoke with him regarding details of the project.

Michael (Membership Director) gave an insight into his vision of increasing membership this year.  He has compiled a list of potential invitees and is pursuing a more personal approach to Business Leaders in the area, with the view to sitting down with them.  Garry to pass on to him a list he compiled some time ago; plus a template for a letter of introduction.

Ron (International Director) advised that our Timor L'Este project would continue this year.  Ron is investigating if we can assist to repair the vehicle used to transport people and supplies through obtaining funds from Rotary.  Sue Alexander is heading back up to Bakhita in September and is taking various equipment she has purchased with donations from family and friends.

Aidan (Youth Director) reported that we will be supporting RYLA, RYPEN, Handicamp and the Science forums again this year.  We will also be continuing our support of the Ursula Frayne Interact Club.

President Peter asked each member present what they wanted from Rotary this year.  The responses included:

  • making a difference for others in the community
  • engaging with youth
  • helping people, in particular the underprivileged
  • interacting with other clubs (using the scatter group approach)
  • building our membership
  • building on our fellowship.
President Peter reminded us that the theme banner for this year says it all:

Be a gift to the world.

President Peter has asked that we all endeavour to be at next Tuesday's meeting as we will be discussing the Pilot Club recommendations.  It is important that we all have an opportunity to discuss how we can move the Club forward.
