National Youth Science Forum Experience

Jayde provided us with her reflections on her time spent at the Australian National University as a participant in the National Youth Science Forum.  Along with 200 other young people from all over Australia, and overseas - including some from Germany and New Zealand they were challenged to move outside of their comfort zone and think of what else they could do.  They went on lab visits, spoke via skype to people in Switzerland about the Hadron Collider; attended lectures, met people who they never expected to meet; were dined and entertained, visited many attractions, including the War Memorial, the Black Mountain Satellite Tower and learned so much about themselves, and their possible career possibilities. 

 

Jayde came to thank the Ascot Rotary Club for enabling this to happen for her.  She said that the program 'brought science to life' and it has helped her get through some of the tough stuff since she returned.  She has developed a love of physics; and despite not understanding some of what she was exposed to while at the Forum, she is fascinated by it and really appreciated the opportunity we provided her to challenge herself.
