President Mike and PP Aidan together provided some feedback about how well the Australian Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (inc) Tournament went which we hosted here in Perth from 2 - 7th April this year.

According to Mike and Aidan "Ascot Club did itself proud".  Congratulations were extended to all committee members and club members who supported the tournament.  A big thank you to all the sponsors who also ensured that we just about met our target of passing on $45,000 to Interplast.  The small shortfall will be topped up by the club to ensure that we can say we are sending out an Interplast team.  Interplast CEO Prue Ingram, who was at the Presentation Dinner was delighted to receive the cheque.

Players at the Tournament received a Welcome Pack consisting of a bag (that could double up as a shoe bag), hat, shirt, and registration booklet.  Christine was responsible for putting the booklet together and did a fantastic job, making sure that all the information that players and partners required was included.  Other members of the committee were also singled out for their contribution - including Roma who was instrumental in putting together the Partners Programme.  She organised for those who weren't playing golf to head out to New Norcia on Monday, Mandurah on Tuesday, Swan Valley on Thursday and to see the highlights of the City plus a tour of Parliament House on the Friday.  Club members who assisted her on the day were Peter (Monday), Ron (Tuesday and Thursday) and Mike M (Friday).  Ros was also thanked specifically for her work in organising the raffle prizes - two beautiful pearl necklaces.  Gren - for his knowledge and experience from running the event back in 2010; Max for looking after the finances; Jeff for being MC throughout the week, despite almost losing his voice; Peter A from the Belmont Rotary Club.  Others to be thanked were Ann Bermann who did an amazing job of keeping everything together, and ensuring that paperwork was kept up to date and accurate and Dianne for taking a gazzilion photos during the event.  These photos will end up on the AGFR website for anyone to have a look at if they are interested.

[ The editor of this article wants to add to the list of people being thanked:  Mike B and Aidan for their tireless efforts in ensuring that the program was the best yet]

Well done everyone.  The feedback from players and partners indicated that they really enjoyed the week - lots more bouquets and almost no brickbats - so we must have done a good job.

This year the committee decided to introduce a new Trophy - called The Sandgroper Trophy. To win it, the best 2 scores from each state were added together each day so a cumulative total was achieved by the end of the week.   By the end of the week, South Australia emerged as the winners, followed closely behind by Victoria and only 2 points of their pace was WA.

The players tried out the WA Golf Club course on Monday and Tuesday; and then the Mt Lawley Golf Course on Thursday and Friday.  The condition of both courses was exceptional.

Congratulations are in order for all those people involved in planning it or helping to run it during the week.
