Ascot Rotary has been around since February 1969.  We were originally sponsored by the Rotary Club of Belmont.  We are located just across the river from the city of Perth and meet twice a month on Tuesday mornings.  Our satellite club meets once a month in the evening on a different Tuesday.  We have had the privilege of having had four of our club members serve as District Governors.

Our club, although small in number, is big at heart.  We are one of many Rotary International clubs around the world and love doing good in our local and global community.  We love what we do and love having fun doing it.

Over the years we have undertaken many different projects, but our biggest to date is the running of our annual Bricktober event during the last weekend of the October school holidays.  We started as a one day event in 2014 but have since grown to a two day event with some 8,000 people coming to visit.  Volunteers are always welcome to come and join in the fun over the weekend.  [if you are interested in volunteering at the event click here]
Funds from Bricktober are used by the club to fund other projects such as our Lego Play Tubs, where we provide tubs of Lego bricks to school and community groups wanting to set up Lego Clubs for children to play in more meaningful ways using Lego.

Some of our other projects we are currently involved in include:

  • Provision of clean water to remote areas in Timor L’ Est – this is an ongoing project (we are currently working on Project Number 12).  We are always looking for funds to supplement what we can raise.
  • Annual Fred Rae Memorial Quiz Night run by our Satellite Club.  Fred Rae was a long-standing member of our club and a well-known Belmont personality.  He was highly regarded by our club and the Quiz Night is named after him.  Our next Quiz Night will be on 4 November 2022.  Funds from this event are used to sponsor some other projects we are also involved in.
  • Supporting local agencies such as Wheels for Hope to enable them to provide support to local families in need.
  • Providing support to enable our young people to attend leadership and development camps run by Rotary such as the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), Rotary Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN), Camp Inspiration (formerly Handicamp) as well as the National Youth Science Forum as well as other options run through our Rotary District (9465)
  • Providing a scholarship to enable indigenous students to engage in tertiary studies in the field of medicine or dentistry, through the Australian Rotary Health Foundation.
  • Sponsoring young students in nearby Cambodia to continue their studies through Sustainable Cambodia project
  • Annually providing Christmas hampers for those in need

Past projects include the following:

  • Running a Mental Health Forum in Belmont
  • Kids in the Kitchen workshops
  • Grandcare camps
  • Providing books for school libraries in nearby countries
  • Sponsoring Interplast teams to travel overseas to do reconstructive surgeries and train local doctors
  • Run Australian Rotary Fellowship of Golfers tournaments here in Perth
  • Renovated a building in Belmont with funds going to our Arthur Bray Trust Fund (which provides funds to assist with financing our youth projects)
  • Rotary Business Card Project with all profits going to Rotary Foundation
  • Providing hamburgers and sausage sizzle at the Belmont Fair

As a result of our fundraising efforts we are big contributors to the Rotary Foundation.  The Foundation is responsible for accepting and distributing donations from Rotarians and friends alike.  Their big push at the moment is the eradication of polio from around the world as well as providing clean water and sanitation to those countries that currently don’t have access to that resource.

Want to come and join us?  We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday at the month at 7.00 am for a 7.30 am meeting start time at The Dome, in Belmont; or alternatively if you are not a breakfast person then our Satellite Club meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5.30 pm at the Carlisle Hotel, 174 Rutland Avenue, Carlisle.  You will be welcome any time you want to come along.  Check our calendar (on this website) to make sure we haven’t decided to do something else for the day.
