Jeff Morfitt Engineer
When Jeff joined Rotary in 2003, it was because his Dad, John Morfitt (a long-time active Rotarian), had mentored him with a strong belief in the value of "Service Above Self", with particular emphasis on international projects. A good friend, Dick Hooper (late Sunrise Club member), dragged Jeff into Rotary - kicking and screaming - I remain passionate to this day. Married to Kellie Reynolds, a CPA/CA (Chartered Accountant) and dedicates a huge amount of time to helping with Rotary Projects and Fund Raisers. They have a daughter, born in 1993 who is a Professional Engineer (UBC Integrated Engineering) with a strong artistic flair! Workwise - Jeff is now retired, but for most of my working life he owned an Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Company (winch, hoist, and gear manufacturing) in Langley. Clients were mostly international companies in the land and offshore oil exploration and production sector. Machinery design is/was my passion. In the last three years leading up to retirement he lead teams in the design of leading-edge military and commercial specialized tracked vehicle transmissions - a very challenging and gratifying way to end his working career. Travel has always been a central focus of the Morfitt's lives. Jeff and Kellie got engaged on a hilltop in northern Thailand, and our honeymoon was a 21-day trek in the Indian Himalayas - up to 18,000 ft altitude. They have continued to travel frequently, developing a love for South-East Asia. In 2017, with an Australian friend, Jeff did a 2-week motorcycle dirt-bike trip through the backroads of northern Vietnam. Kellie and Jeff have traveled to many less-traveled areas and enjoy long-stay experiences while traveling. Jeff was our Rotary Club President for 2011-2012, and since then I've been Treasurer. Truthfully - Kellie has been the Treasurer, and Jeff has been the front-face. In 2009, Jeff had an amazing, life-altering experience that cemented his Rotary International Service passion. He participated, in a Rotaplast mission to Cebu, Philippines. Rotaplast performs surgery to correct Cleft Pallet and Cleft Lip deformities in developing countries. He witnessed, close-up, the most incredible transformative surgeries on 90 young children. The team worked to dramatically change the quality life for the kids, their families, and villages. Jeff would love to do this again! Rotarians need to see, or preferably participate directly, in the international aspects of Rotary, to get an understanding of just how effective the Rotary organization really is. Jeff thinks the Rotary International vision sums it up perfectly; “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves." |
