Last Week's Program
Our program last week was about the Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro. It's mission is: To enrich the common good through actor based story telling which is both transcendent and relevant. It was founded in 1989 and has grown significantly over the years to now have 22,000 attendees annually. The Commonweal boasts a rare organizational model, with resident ensemble members (who have come from all over the country to make their home in the Lanesboro area) fulfilling the day-to-day artistic and operational needs of the company as artist/administrators. They have 11 members of the company who carefully choose and evaluate each play that they do. Each play runs 30 - 65 performances alternating nights. So you can do see one show one night and a different one the following, helping to boost the lodging and hospitality industy in Lanesboro. The company also has a very unique apprenticeship program. Five artists are chosen each year to spend 10 1/2 months with the company learning, acting, and doing the support and administrative work. They also host an annual Isben Festival each year in April.
