Dictionary Project

Earlier this month, members of Anon Rotary Club visited every public, private, and charter elementary school in Winona County as well as Rushford-Peterson schools to deliver a free dictionary to each 3^rd grade student.  Nearly 600 dictionaries were donated and presented. The students eagerly looked up how to spell various words with their own brand new "Student Dictionary" in hand. Some students helped their neighbors find the words. The excitement in the classrooms was palpable! The students also enjoyed learning about the additional features of the dictionary including world and state maps, country facts, conversion tables for weights and measurements and sign language.

During the seven years of the Dictionary Project, Winona Rotary has distributed a total of nearly 3,600 dictionaries to all third grade students in Winona County. This is the second year that included Rushford-Peterson schools. Winona Rotary has advocated literacy programs for many years.
