The Dignity Project is a partnership between the Rotary Clubs of Turramurra and Epping supporting the charity Dignity, which provides safe shelter, warm meals, and practical help for people experiencing homelessness. Rotarians regularly come together to cook and package nutritious meals that are distributed through Dignity’s crisis accommodation network. Beyond the food itself, the project aims to restore hope, respect, and a sense of belonging — reminding those in need that they are valued and not forgotten.
The Dignity Project – Cooking with Heart
In 2025, the Dignity Project began as a heartfelt collaboration between the Rotary Clubs of Turramurra and Epping, driven by a shared desire to make a practical difference for people experiencing homelessness. At the centre of it all is Wendy, whose passion and compassion sparked the idea and turned it into a regular hands-on Rotary initiative. Working closely with Rebecca and a dedicated team of volunteers from both clubs, Wendy helped forge a strong partnership with the charity Dignity, whose mission is to provide safe shelter, nutritious meals, and the respect every person deserves.
Each month, Rotarians gather at Epping Rotary Hall, aprons on and utensils ready, to chop, cook, and package hundreds of wholesome meals. These meals are then distributed through Dignity’s network of crisis accommodation homes, ensuring that individuals and families doing it tough receive not only nourishment but also a sense of care and connection.
What makes the Dignity Project special is its spirit of teamwork and compassion. Members often describe the sessions as some of the most rewarding hours of their Rotary year — filled with laughter, purpose, and a shared sense of achievement. The kitchen hums with energy as lifelong friendships are formed and new volunteers discover the joy of service in action.
From humble beginnings in 2025, the project has grown into a cornerstone of community service for both clubs. It continues to highlight the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self”, proving that even the simplest act — preparing a meal — can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.
