This summer the Cedar Lake Association has embarked on a project to restore the water quality and natural lake floor composition with a two-part program. The goal is to naturally promote a better environment which overtakes large algae blooms.
The multi-level systems use water boxes to filter water through them and charge the water with ions that will promote higher oxygen levels displaced in the water to help fuel growth of plankton which will eat the algae and the floor muck. The water boxes are quiet and will be added in areas (under docks) to promote natural lake water flow around the lake.
The second part of the system is bio-pucks made of good bacteria, Fugui and enzymes. The pucks are added to the lake every month by lake residence and volunteers. The pucks will help promote the micro-organisms to feed on the leftover dead plant debris on the lake floor.
This project is a multi-year endeavor and has had great support for my lakefront and association members. The total cost of the project is 375,00 over 3 years. Much of the cost is upfront with the water boxes. The project is almost fully funded but is still looking for roughly 65,000 left in support needed. The Rotary club has committed $1000 a year for 3 years. Our commitment will help share cleaner water at the camp and help promote the use of Cedar Lake with the community.
