With heavy hearts, we must let you know that our father, Roy, passed away peacefully at Faribault Senior Living on September 3, a few days after his 94th birthday. Dave and Steve were with him when he left to join Bobbie. Eric had just seen him the day before.
Roy was in hospice and sleeping for the last two months. Since then he began to eat less and less and eventually became bedridden. He held on to his good nature and sense of humor until he lapsed into sleep for his last couple days.
He lived a life of reinvention: soldier, optometrist, scoutmaster, non-fiction author, family historian, library assistant, classroom mentor, tour guide, historical impersonator, and fount of dreadful dad jokes. A true people person, he cherished his friends and relatives and made new friends wherever he went. The three of us can only hope to carry on his zest for life and curiosity about the people and world around us. We will remember him always.
We plan to hold a combined celebration of life in Faribault for both Roy and Bobbie at 11am on Saturday Sept. 27th at First English Lutheran Church followed by a reception luncheon and remembrances . Look for Roy's obituary at the Boldt Funeral Home site, in the Faribault Daily News, and Mankato Free Press. He will be interred in the Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota, his birthplace. In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to the Faribault River Bend Nature Center or the Faribault First English Lutheran Church general fund in his name.
