Our speaker was Matt Cavelier Head of School of Shattuck St. Mary’s.
Matt’s presentation started out interactive with the audience. He told us that he has been working for 20 years to develop a positive relationship between the school and the Faribault community. He wanted to know what we thought of when we hear “Shattuck St. Mary’s” and answers included: welcoming, worldly, remarkable students, hockey, and architecture.
Shattuck St. Mary’s has 9 National championship titles. If you want to play hockey and be a good student there is no better place in the world to train and get an education.
Shattuck St. Mary’s has the best Bio Science program in the county, and top-notch Music and Engineering programs as well. Besides hockey, there are also soccer programs, figure skating and golf.
Matt remarked about the collaborations around the community, naming STEM school, River Bend Nature Center, The Historical Society, and Faribault Public Schools for working with Shattuck to coop on some sports Shattuck doesn’t have the numbers to offer.
What’s next?? Shattuck is working on a third full sheet of Ice to allow for more flexibility for students who train and study at Shattuck. A program to start hydroponic farming is taking off and with 18 units, the school will be able to grow the produce it needs, and then some to offer to the local food pantries.
