Nicholas Sonpon Sr. spoke about his mission in Liberia. Young girls are at a disadvantage in Liberia because they are often taken by older men to be wives rather than get an education. His own mother was taken by a man who she had 3 children with and then he decided he didn't want to marry her. Nicholas read the Bible to his mother and she started witnessing to her community about salvation through Jesus Christ. She had a vision for her son Nicholas to go to America and start to raise money for a mission to help young girls. 100,000 young girls are not in school.
So far Nicholas and his team have raised enough funds to send 80 girls to school. for $100 a year a young girl can go to school, get a backpack and uniform and eat two meals a day. Families live off of $2 a day. There is no electricity in this area. The team envisions crop farming and small animal farming for the community. Nicholas goes back to Liberia every two years and currently resides in Faribault with his wife and six children.
