Understanding Autism
Last week Jean Bender (pictured) from the Autism Society of Minnesota gave an informative presentation to the club. She stated that Autism has a steadily increasing diagnosis rate, (1 in 68 boys and 1 in 189 girls) autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the fastest growing developmental disability in Minnesota. Because of this high prevalence, it is inevitable that you will encounter someone affected by ASD in your work as a first responder, in the criminal justice system, in public safety and security, as a medical professional, and everyday life.
