  • Program: “Election Judges" by Heather Slechta
    • Heather is the City Clerk for the City of Faribault.
    • A city clerk acts as the clerk and bookkeeper of the city, is the custodian of its seal and records, signs its official papers, posts and publishes notices, ordinances and resolutions as required, and performs other duties that may be imposed by the city council.
    • Heather organizes and oversees the Election Judges for the City of Faribault.
    • Election Judges are temporary, paid employees of local election officials, trained to handle all aspects of voting at the polling place(s). Serving as an election judge is a chance to learn about elections, and is a great service to the community.

    • Requirements to be an Election Judge:
      • Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
      • Must be able to read, write and speak English
      • 16- and 17-year-old students can be election judge trainees!
      • Relatives cannot serve together, but may serve at different times or different precincts.
      • Candidates cannot serve in precincts where they are on the ballot.

    • You can choose to be paid or volunteer
    • You are required to take a 2-hour training
    • Shifts are 6am-2pm or 2-pm until duties are completed; you can also do 6am until the end of the day with a lunch break.
