 Our virtue this week was read by Brenda DeMars- Integrity Brenda talked about her experiences at the bank. You have to have good character and integrity as people share their vulnerabilities with you. Greg Ciesluk updated us about the Strive banquet. Each student received $250 and 15 students received larger scholarships. There was an article in the daily news about the Strive students. One more student will be receiving funds. Our speaker was rescheduled for April due to possible weather issues. Mark Kenney discussed this past weekend's training. He and Brandon attended. Mark sported a new Rotary vest. They learned about ways to keep the club growing and fun, as well as how to make an impact on the community. They had a lot of fun. Mark shared his Rotary Pet Peeve- Presidents acting like they have been tricked into being president. Being a president is an honor and should be a positive thing people talk about. "Rotary was here a long time before I was here. It will be here for a long time after I am gone." Thank you, Mark! Welcome Harper Halverson and Willow Connelly who were present because school was canceled. Greg commended Mark on his statement. It is an honor to serve with Rotary. Willow and Kristen were with Rotary when David was attending his training last year. He let Willow pick out a Rotary item and she went with the $70 earrings. Ryan Holmquist turned 40 this week!! Brenda said it was nice to be here this week and talked about the cash raffle starting soon. We are adding Boxers to the back of the raffle ticket. Starts April 23rd. Mark said at the convention people were bragging about members who have been in Rotary for 30-40 years. Rod Mahler has been in Rotary for 67 years!! He says he is proud to be associated with it. Bob talked about his two passions- bringing attention to the attack on education and what is happening in our country concerning medical care for all people. We need to take action and pay attention for what is happening in our country. Kay Hoaglin took a trip to Missouri and met some friends for lunch and then met her sister for her 75th birthday. She was able to connect with family too. Kymn Anderson encourages us to seek out speakers for future meetings. Please contact her if you know someone who would like to speak. Gail Kaderlik talked about her scholarship program. Last year there were 46 applicants. This year she has over 52. If you know someone who needs a scholarship for going back to school, please refer them to Fate Foundation. Natalie Halverson went to the Town Hall meeting last night hosted by the DFL. It was a good turnout. There were great speakers. The federal government had been working on broadband for rural areas, but those have been canceled and given to Elon Musk. Martha Brown spoke as well. Someone spoke about the farmer's market and how funds have been cut for local farmers. There were several Rotarians there. She also wanted to talk about the Women's basketball team she has joined. Faribault Granny Hotshots!! Women over 50. There are 2 teams in MN. If you are interested, please talk to Natalie about joining the team. You do not need to have any experience. There will be a tournament in April. Kurt asked everyone to come see Natalie play. She is the Caitlyn Clark of Faribault. Kurt is wondering about a person who visited the club who also was involved with Granny Basketball. He was happy to have his daughter visiting. They have been selling a ton of cookies for Girl Scouts. Ryan talked about his Great Grandma Guida turning 39 for the 61st time. He finally is 40 and "older" than his 100-year-old Grandma. He was happy about what Mark had to say about serving with Rotary. He is inspired by those who have served for many years. Brandon Gliem talked about his weekend away with Mark. It easy to get wrapped up in your own world. Everyone can get wrapped up in their own worlds. It amazing to him how big the outreach is. There are so many likeminded people in the club. Until you sit in the room with all those leaders it is hard to fully understand. Rotary is the top service group in the world. There are a million likeminded people who serve with Rotary. Attending a district event is really inspiring. He also realized that all clubs struggle with the same issues. We are all the same. They were able to promote the camp at the district event. It would be good to spread the word about the Rotary Camp. There is a video about our camp on YouTube. Brenda talked about when she was going to be president. There was a meeting of 400 people who were worried about everything closing down before Covid. David announced a change to the board. Everything will be put into pillars and one person will attend the board meeting as a representative of each pillar. Club Administration, Relations, Community Engagement and Foundation and Giving. |
