Clean River Partners is a membership organization that has worked for over 30 years to protect our waterways, particularly the Cannon River watershed in southeast Minnesota. The core of their approach is bringing together partners with diverse responsibilities, interests, and backgrounds to co-create a resilient watershed. They connect people to clean water through inspiring events, conservation practices, and network building. They do this work by connecting, supporting, and providing opportunities for residents, farmers, and landowners to directly experience the land and water of the Cannon River Watershed and make conscious choices that support it. Events like the Downstream Environmental Film Festival and the Annual Watershed-Wide Cleanup bring together local organizations and community members with activities that educate and inspire involvement in improving water quality.
Their conservation program builds resilience in the watershed and its communities by promoting practices that are sustainable ecologically, economically, and culturally. They assist farmers with implementing cover crops and conservation tillage, increase continuous living cover through perennial and alternative cropping, and amplify the products and leadership of local sustainable and regenerative farmers.
Clean River Partners are building a learning community of farmers and the ag professionals who support them while working to shift the watershed culture toward conservation. The Cannon River watershed can be a regional hub for sustainable soil and water management. It will empower the networks they are building to share their knowledge and be conservation leaders within their communities and beyond.
