Guest speaker:
Marlena and Sam started out with a beautiful rendition of the song ‘Sisters’ from White Christmas. Marlena plays Betty Haines and Sam plays her little sister Judy in the production.
VOS is kicking off the season with White Christmas. In 2010 White Christmas sold out six weeks before the show. It was going to be VOS’s last blow out but it was a huge success. People request the show to be put on again. This time there are new cast members, the cast is larger and there will be snow in the theatre.
The next VOS show is A Certain Singing Teacher by local author Linda Hutsell-Manning.
They normally do a spring show but this year decided instead to bring summer theatre to Victoria Hall. They are bringing Anne of Green Gables because of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Tickets are already selling.
The show will involve students and they hope to get a grant to pay students.
VOS show proceeds go to bursaries to local high schools. There is also a scholarship created in 2014  to commemorate Ruth Harcort, the founder of VOS.
As it costs about $55,000 to $60,000 to put on production VOS usually doesn’t make a profit so they offer rentals of costumes and sets. They have interest from all over the world on the rentals because they offer great quality costumes.

50/50 draw
President Bob said the playing cards were lost so we have new cards substituting the king of spades as the winning card.
Paul, Dave, and Elaine were picked but no winners this week.
