Focus and increase humanitarian service:
- partnering with another club for a district grant

- do one project focused on environment  - possibly tree planting
Enhance public image:
  • use Rotary’s brand guidelines, templates, logos in communications
  • regularly update social media/ website
  • have local media cover a project

We will officially vote on the goals at the next meeting

Cathy – Patti is away – one week in January so we won’t be able to meet at Ashbrook, we need to plan a social night that week.

Blake –
Thanked the members for donating new or gently used shoes for students at Qaqqalik School in Kimmirut, Nunavut.
Blake put out the word out by email and soon Paul Racine donated 17 shoes. More shoes came at the meeting.
When shipping? Blake said he would start in about 2 days but he can always send more.
Doug asked about cost of shipping and Blake said it is expensive.
Kevin discussed the possibility of creating a budget with community and international committee funds for the new committee for Honouring Indigenous People, which could support aid to Kimmirut.

Linda Goldie introduced the guest speakers
Dave Adams is executive director of the Five Counties Children’s Centre Foundation and has been there for 26 years
Keri Haukioja is an occupational therapist with Five Counties, helping children from 0-19 with feeding, fine motor skills, and mobility
Five Counties Children Centre helps children with physical, communication and developmental problems.
Dave spoke about how Five Counties Children’s started 42 years ago through Rotary Clubs help.
In Northumberland 1,600 to 1,700 children are seen every year and 850 children are on a waiting list.
The centre recently moved to a new facility on Division Street in Cobourg.
Keri spoke about a lift system used to help lift children in therapy. After a child grows to over 80 pounds therapists cannot lift the child and use a lift. The new system is state of the art and allows therapists to move the children anywhere in the room as opposed to be limited to a single track.
When they moved to the new location, Five Counties had a grant to do renovations. They had a choice of lift systems and decided on the more modern lift system. It put them $12,000 over budget. They are currently fundraising to cover the costs.
