Guest speaker – Steafan Hannigan -- http://www.steafan.com/
Belfast born, now Baltimore resident Steafan peppered his a talk about Ireland with many jokes.
We learned many Irish people came over to Canada particularly during the potato famine. Toronto at one time was going to be named Dublin. 80 million in the world can claim Irish descent including Barrack Obama.
As a musician Steafan talked about traditional instruments such as the fiddle, harp, Uillean pipes, and flute Boehm (drum) and tin whistle. He played a few of his instruments.
Steafan owns 900 instruments, which he lends out. He and his wife Saskia teach music.
Steafan and Saskia and their three children play in the band, Cairdeas, around the community including The Loft on March 17 and Pasty Peddler in Millbrook this weekend.
